Helen Pye
Experience:
After completing an MA in Magazine Journalism in 2014, Helen fell in love with arts and showbiz reporting, working for MSN News, the Mail on Sunday, and the entertainment desk at the Press Association. From chatting to the stars at Glastonbury to pounding the red carpet at film premieres, it was a fun three years! After taking a break to go travelling, Helen joined Hitched in 2017 as their Senior Digital Writer, before being promoted to Deputy Editor two years later. She now gets to write about all her favourite showbiz weddings as well as help you pull together your big day - it really is the best job ever.
Helen was on PPA’s 30 Under 30 list in 2020 and won a FIPP Rising Stars in the Media award in 2019.
Education:
Helen graduated from Oxford University with a first in Theology in 2013. The closest she gets to using it now is writing about how to plan a church wedding, but her university time wasn’t wasted. While she was at Oxford, she edited the student newspaper, Cherwell, found her passion for writing, and went on to do an MA in Magazine Journalism at City University London.
Hitched Q&A with Helen:
What Is Your Ideal Wedding Style?
I’m completely torn! It’s either a tiny elopement in the Scottish Highlands or a weekend-long extravaganza that includes all my favourite venues near where I live: a pre-wedding party at Kew Gardens, an intimate ceremony at Orleans House Gallery, and a lavish reception at Syon Park. Can you tell I’m indecisive?!
Dream Honeymoon Location?
A walking holiday in New Zealand! You can walk the length of it in four months which would be my absolute dream. Do you reckon they’d let me take that long off as annual leave? I’d throw in a week in Bali at the end for some massages on the beach.
What Was (or Would Be) Your First Dance Song?
Loving You Easy by the Zac Brown Band or Last Shot by Kip Moore. Country all the way!
Favourite Celebrity Wedding Look?
I have a soft spot for those gorgeous puff sleeves Millie Mackintosh wore at her wedding to Hugo Taylor.
