Joanna Magill

Joanna's Experience:

Joanna’s passion for weddings began in her teenage years working as a musician in wedding ceremonies across her native Northern Ireland. She moved to England in 2017 to study French and Spanish at the University of Southampton, where her interest in journalism began thanks to her work on the university newspaper and in other freelance roles.

After graduating in 2020, she moved to Belgium to teach English, before moving back to the U.K. in 2022 and completing a digital journalism internship at Squaremeal, an independent restaurant guide.

Since beginning her work at Hitched in September 2022, Joanna has written articles about a range of topics in the wedding industry, from eco-conscious weddings to hotel reviews to haunted wedding venues! She quickly developed an interest in venue and supplier-focused content and loves writing content that spotlights wonderful Hitched venues and suppliers around the U.K. and further afield.

When she's not writing, you can find her with a book in one hand and a coffee in the other, or planning her next trip abroad.

Joanna's Favourite Thing About the Wedding Industry:

Joanna loves that the wedding industry allows so much space for couples to be creative on their wedding day, as she firmly believes that when it comes to your wedding, there are no rules!

She says: “Weddings are a chance to tell your love story in your own way, and I love to see all the different ways people express their individuality during their wedding day!”

Joanna's Favourite Wedding Moment:

Joanna’s favourite moment of every wedding is the vow exchange. She says, “I’m a massive crier, and there hasn’t been a single wedding I’ve attended where I haven’t at least teared up when the couple says ‘I do’!”

Joanna's Best Piece of Wedding Advice:

Your wedding is what you make it! It doesn’t matter if you want to have a traditional church wedding or you want an all-out festival-style party, all the choices are completely yours. The most important thing is the love between you and your partner.

Joanna's Proudest Career Moment to Date:

Joanna’s proudest career moment so far has been developing content for all the winners of the Hitched Wedding Awards in 2023. This involved writing articles showcasing the top suppliers of each region of the UK. Doing this allowed her to focus on the amazing range of options on Hitched, as well as champion small businesses.
