Having always been a closet creative, being an interior designer was firmly up there on my list of career goals. Somewhere along the line however, life swept me along and I found myself behind a desk in the world of a corporate PA. Along the way, the urge to create tapped on my shoulder and I signed up to an evening class in cake decorating (art and cake, what’s not to like?) and it awoke a passion in me that soon became a side hustle to my day job. Finally I had a creative outlet and spent several years practising until I decided that I had to follow my calling full time.

Needless to say, I spend a lot of time thinking about cake. How to marry flavours, baking the lightest of sponges and whipping the silkiest of buttercream; playing with the limitless possibilities of design, texture and colour and, above all, creating a bespoke cake that makes someone feel really special.

For me, and I suspect for many, cake represents a happy memory shared with friends and family. It’s a sugary slice of lemon drizzle with a cup of tea in my cosiest jumper on a chilly afternoon; or it’s a flashback to being a child, waiting impatiently for my grandad Bill to finish mixing his fruit cake and pass me the spoon…
