About
Vittari Duo is a South Wales-based all-female Flute and Violin duo that offers a unique combination of music, from classical to Pop. The duo—Alexandra Lucas and Nia-Bethan Squirrell—are highly trained, professional musicians who boast great experience performing for various events, from weddings and charities to musical theatre shows and private functions. They are available for travel and have played at various locations in the UK and concerts in Heidleberg, Baden-Baden, Strasbourg, Cologne, Oberkirch, Normandy, Leipzig, and Xiamen.
Experience
After gaining her Grade 8 in Flute Performance in 2010, Alexandra Lucas headed to study at the Junior Conservatoire at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the tutorship of Joanne Abson. During her college years, Alexandra held the position of Co-Principal Flute and Principal Piccolo for the Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra and Principal Flute for the Cardiff University Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Mark Eager and Andrea Quin. She toured Europe and China and recorded a CD with Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra. Also, had the opportunity to perform and received guidance from prolific flautists such as Robert Manasse, Uwe Grodd, Wissam Boustany, Sarah Newbold, and Ian Clarke.
Nia-Bethan Squirrell is a graduate of Cardiff University and has recently gained her Master's in Music Performance. During her years at the university, Nia held the position of leader for both the Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra and the Cardiff University Chamber Orchestra. She has recorded CDs and went on a European tour in 2015, and performed world premieres as part of the City of Light Festival. While at university, she was awarded the Neville John String Prize and the D Afan Thomas Music Memorial Prize. Taught and guided by the late Juilliard Graduate Harry Cawood, she had the opportunity to work with Yehudi Menuhin. Nia boasts experience with professional orchestras, like the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera and Philharmonia Orchestra, and is also a member of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra (YMSO), which is based in London.
