About
Hello! I'm Darcie; the photographer behind the lense at Darcie Mae Photography. You might know me as Heather and Hawthorn Photography, which is how I've got to know all of the amazing couples I've worked with over the last several years as a wedding photographer.
What I've learned over the years, though, is that from the first meeting (which I always offer via Zoom so that we can get to know each other), to a coffee at your venue a few months before your big day, to the morning of the wedding when I'm usually on hand for emergency snacks, help with the veil or sending messages to and fro - is that we're building a relationship, one that means that by the time I'm posting you your personalised gift box with your digital photos and prints inside five or six weeks later, I feel like I know you and that I'm wishing a pair of friends well for the next chapter in their lives.
For this reason, I felt that it was high time that I put my name in the title!
I'm a documentary style photographer, which means that I have an unintrusive approach to photography, observing the day as it plays out organically. With this said, I also know weddings really well by now, and know when to step in and make a suggestion so that the photos will work better or so that the bride or groom will feel more at ease in front of the lense. I offer a heavily discounted 'engagement' or pre-wedding shoot to my couples so that they can have a practice run before the big day too - some of my couples have used these photos on their wedding days for their table centres, personalised bottles of wine and thank you cards.
I'm heavily inspired in my work by nature and my surroundings - so if you're up for sticking your wellies on and getting stuck in for your couples photos, so am I! I'm not afraid of getting muddy so that my brides don't have to, but I also love an elegant castle wedding or a modern city shoot.
My favourite part of the job is the storytelling. My photography isn't about telling the story of why I'm a photographer - it's about telling the story of you as a couple; your tastes, your backgrounds, the things that brought you (and keep you!) together, and how you've chosen to show those things on your big day. Most of all - it's telling the story of the people that you surround yourself with in the big moments, and you all feel when you're together.
I'm a big fan of an intimate wedding so I have a price plan that caters to weddings as small as 10 people as well as packages for weddings of over 100, so please don't hesitate to get in touch even if you're not sure what questions you should be asking!
I look forward to hearing from you.
