About
Joshua Anstey is a documentary wedding photographer with an artistic focus based in Framlingham, Suffolk. He specialises in people who, just like himself, hate having their photo taken.
Hello there...
So why me? If you're dreading the idea of hiring some random person you found on the internet to follow you around with a camera all day, I know exactly how you feel. I've been there myself, and it's not something I'm keen to repeat. That's why I built my business catering for people just like me, who want and appreciate the need for great wedding photography but hate the idea of actually having to be in any of the photos.
I've got a number of tricks and techniques I use to make hiring me as unintrusive as possible, but one of the main things is that I mostly use telephoto lenses. This means I can take pictures from further away without people even realising I'm there, as opposed to shoving intimidating chunks of glass up people's noses.
I also don't invest any time dreaming up cliché posed shots or fine-tuning your posture - everything is completely candid (yep, even the couple's portraits that look like they're posed).
A bit about pricing
No one likes paying for stuff they don't need, so I charge per hour of cover (check my website for current rates). This means you can balance what's important to you versus your budget. Not sure how much you need? Not a problem, I can talk you through what you'd get from which bits of the day and you can decide from there.
Some stuff about me
I'm a full-time professional wedding photographer, but before that, I was a paramedic. I kept my registration, though, and still do the odd shift to keep my skills current. I also did a brief stint as a dinner lady where I let the kids call me 'Miss', but I tend to talk about the paramedic job more because obviously...
I was once mistaken for Francis from Made In Chelsea. Actually, I used to get this a lot, but as I hit my 30s, I started to curate a receding hairline and a bit of a monk-like bald spot, and since then, the comparisons tailed off. I have absolutely no doubt that the two are completely unrelated, so shut up.
I'm in no way worried about being completely bald by 40.
I love music. Passionately. I play a bunch of instruments, some less well than others. I started learning the drums when I was 5, so I guess that's my main instrument. I briefly had the opportunity to go pro at 16, but my mum made me go to college instead, and this in no way led to several years of resentment.
