Welcome to Matt Godman Wedding Photography.
I am an award winning photographer shooting weddings for over 10 years. I'm based in Hertfordshire but work all over the UK. I live in Hertfordshire with my wife and two children, having previously lived in London but I have family ties to Yorkshire, and I am happy working anywhere in the country.
My philosophy is simple - I want you to focus on your wedding day, not posing for photographs. I aim to simply photograph natural moments, beautifully.
If you want to enjoy your wedding day and have moments captured you didn't even realise were happening instead of a series of stage managed moments, I'll be a great fit for you.
Despite my Hertfordshire base, I travel all over the UK photographing weddings. I photograph weddings in Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Cheshire and Lincolnshire - as well as working closer to home in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Hampshire and of course Hertfordshire. So wherever you're getting married, I'd love to hear from you.

I am a passionate advocate of photography - I have a background in Fine Art and have worked in photography all my life. I have always loved taking photographs. I care deeply about the quality of my work and the images I supply to you. I hope you can see this in my portfolio. I love weddings, I love sharing such a special day with people and the images I take are really important to me.

Services Offered
I like to keep it simple. My comprehensive collection includes 10-hours coverage, a private online gallery, a beautiful slideshow with accompanying music, and 50 high-quality prints. When it comes to documenting your wedding, this photographer adapts an unobstructed approach. This allows your big day to flow naturally as every crucial scene is captured. Though based in Hertfordshire, Matt offers his expertise throughout the United Kingdom.

What does the wedding package include?
I keep things simple - I offer a 10 hour package from getting ready to the party and all the beautiful moments in between! You will receive your beautiful online gallery and 30 professional prints
How far in advance should I contact you?
I take bookings up to two years in advance. The majority of couples book me around 12 to 18 months before their big day. I do book up fast!
Do you cover more than one wedding a day?

Our Magical Day

What can I say about Matt…
When I first saw Matt’s work I knew I had to have him as our wedding photographer, being a professional photographer for 10 years myself it’s always hard to hire someone that does something you can do especially for your own big day.
He exceed all of our expectations. From his natural relaxed manner, and his calm approach right to the way he was with our guests and working with us, we are all a slightly crazy bunch lol 😂
Our photos are amazing 🤩 the most funny and beautiful. Matt truly captured ever part of it and we hardly knew he was there!
We can’t thank him enough for every part of the day he captured and the fact he was so fun.

Absolutely brilliant photographer and very friendly
Would recommend Matt to everyone. We hired him to photograph our wedding and he was brilliant throughout. We spoke on the phone a couple of times before the day and completed a rough plan with regards to timings, any group shots we wanted, any special requests. He is very relaxed and gives you confidence that everything is totally under control so you can get on with enjoying yourself. We are both very relaxed people so this suited us perfectly. The photos he took were amazing and we didn't even really notice his being there. The way he captured us, our guests and our surroundings was brilliant. There were so many nice photos it's going to be hard to pick out the ones which make the wall. Thanks again Matt

Beyond our Dreams!
We were both so pleased that we chose Matt to capture our wedding day. We both wanted a documentary style wedding photographer because we both shy away from posed pictures and have always found the documentary style captures the best bits we may miss. Matt did not disappoint and exemplifies this style of photography to its core! Despite having two religious ceremonies (Hindu and Christian weddings), Matt was able to capture every moment whilst allowing our both us and our guests to enjoy the day. Matt was able to pick up every detail and captured the colour, joy and traditions in the most beautiful way. Our family and friends absolutely love the pictures too and complimented the fact Matt blended in with the crowd! It was an absolute pleasure to work with you, Matt and we cannot thank you enough for the most incredible wedding pictures! We would highly recommend to all couples looking for their picture perfect photographer!

The Most Beautiful Photos
Matt photographed our barn wedding a few weeks ago. He was absolutely fantastic, we didn't even know he was there half of the time! He captured every moment (including our guests who also all loved the photos) and we ended up with the most beautiful photos. Thank you again, Jade and Jonathan

Beautiful photographs, really helpful and relaxing to work with
Matt just did the photography for our May wedding at Howsham Hall, he was absolutely fantastic on the day, making the photography process really smooth and relaxed. The photographs are absolutely beautiful and capture all the special moments from our day. We couldn’t recommend Matt enough.

Beautiful photos
Matt photographed our wedding in July and the pictures are exactly what we hoped they would be. Matt captured our wedding day perfectly and we now have so many lovey memories of our special day.
Matt and his colleague were also very professional and were very responsive in regards to communication prior to the wedding. We loved that the majority of the photos were natural with just a few posed family / group shots. We have seen parts of our wedding day on our photos that we were too busy and excited to see on the day. It was lovey looking through all the photos and reliving such a wonderful day.

Wonderful photographer :)
Matt photographed our wedding at the end of September at Danby Castle barn. Communication before the date was excellent we had a couple calls throughout the year and was very easy to chat with. On the day Matt was wonderful, didn’t even know he was there (which was exactly what we wanted). He made all the guests feel relaxed and offered lots of helpful advice throughout the day. We’ve just received the pictures back and they’re better than we could’ve imagined. Matt really listened to what we wanted and captured so many beautiful moments. All round, a lovely person who was a joy to be around on the day.

From our first meeting when we enquired, Matt instantly put us at ease and we immediately felt so comfortable talking with him.We both really wanted to feel present in our day and not to be worryied about posing for a long period of time, so based on his work, beautiful style and calm energy we knew he was the right photographer for us. In the lead up to our day, Matt was communicative, helpful with any queries and eased any worries we had.
On our day, Matt was amazing, helpful, captured beautiful details and put everyone at ease. Would 100% recommend!
We couldn’t have asked for a better photography team! We got married 22.07.23 at Glewstone Court Country House. Through Matt, we were able to book Karl as Matt wasn’t available for our wedding. Matt was excellent throughout the planning process answering all of our queries. Karl on the day was brilliant, he accommodated to all of our needs making sure we were comfortable and ensured all of the shots we asked for were delivered. It rained the majority of our day, not heavy, but enough so that the wedding was mostly inside. However, Karl timed all the shots perfectly so we managed to get all of the outside photos we wanted! We were delighted with the final product, Matt did a fantastic job putting our wedding portfolio together. Would 100% recommend!

Absolutely amazing from start to finish!
We recently got married and had Matt as our photographer following a recommendation from a friend - it was the best decision we made!! Matt was fantastic in the build up, really communicative and great at explaining how everything would work. On the day itself Matt was amazing, always there to catch every moment but so professional we barely even realised! His natural, ‘unposed’ style really fit what we were looking for, it allowed us to truly enjoy every moment of our big day and took all the stress out of anything photography related.
It’s only three weeks since our wedding and we’ve already received the final photos back. We couldn’t be happier with the final result. Matt managed to capture every moment perfectly and we couldn’t be more thankful to him for turning so many special memories into lasting moments that we can cherish forever.

Incredible natural photographer
Matthew was a delight to deal with from start to finish and really easy company to have accompany you on your wedding day.
His photography is breathtaking , he truly captures beautiful moments that you never want to forget, making you feel at ease and forget the camera is even there. I couldn’t have wished for more from my wedding photos.

Above and beyond photographer.
Matt photographed our autumnal wedding day perfectly, he captured our personalities through the pictures which makes them so much more special. Thank you so much for making everything flow so easily and capturing the most perfect moments.
