17 Aug, 2024Our Real Wedding
My partner caught me completely off guard, with the proposal, we had just been for the Jubilee in London so I had assumed a ring might manifest there but nothing happened. Instead a couple of weeks alter we had Elton John coming to Norwich, we went up to the high points to listen and as he serenaded us out popped the ring!
From then on it was game on for the serious business of wedding planning, out came the Excel spreadsheet and I spent two weeks calculating the budget for everything, we wanted to do this all ourselves so as not to have any "you have to" moments. Best choice ever! We watched every penny and every penny mattered when spending.
We visited so many venues in and around Norfolk, including a steam railway, old houses, and various fields for DIY weddings. However, it was Thursford that stole our hearts right away. I could just see my dream of bunting, vintage games, and afternoon tea coming to life before our eyes. The venue were so helpful from start to finish and recommended to us Back to Your Place caterers who again just sorted everything so smoothly, especially the dietary needs nightmare!
Continue reading »We went to several wedding fairs and although we tried quite a few dresses on the Wed 2 B lady just got me and pulled out the most beautiful dress, we found a local tailor in Norwich for my husband and we were set. Keeping the budget down meant lots of difficult choices and we really thought I was going to be doing all the flowers but then the lovely Daisy's in Dereham was recommended. No minimum fee like so many vendors (£1000 in most cases) and she listened closely to the brief and produced the most amazing bouquets for me.
The day was upon us before we knew it, I woke up in the beautiful Holly Lodge very very early and descended into the friendliest atmosphere, the staff cannot do enough to put you at ease. We had our hair and makeup done in the Victorian conservatory looking out into the garden but handily right next to the breakfast table for ease. I felt such a Princess when I finally came down the stairs to await Melissa to take me across to the venue, the look on my Dad's face was priceless. After that everything just went so swimmingly, the final touches had been seen to and the fun began. My favourite moment was joining my guests on the Victorian Gondola ride and hearing the laughter and seeing the smiles as everyone enjoyed that and the beautiful carousel. We opted for photos in the secret garden with the backdrop of the fountain, by now we had proceeded from the barn, to the museum and afterwards into the glass pavilion. So many places to explore and capture in one venue! The afternoon tea was simply wonderful with all our vintage china being used just made it come to life. Many guests were thrilled when extra bits were bought out to top everyone up, not a hungry person anywhere.
From there we had our inflatable Helter-Skelter and garden games for the afternoon, interspersed with ice cream from the actual ice cream parlour! A wonderful addition for our guests we had been able to add. As night drew in the fairy lights illuminated the garden and the dancefloor lit up the party just kept on going.
