06 Sep, 2024Our Real Wedding
Having met in 2014 studying Food Innovation at University, we thought it was fitting to have a celebration of what brought us together 10 years later.
Cameron and I had always joked about having a food themed wedding, but when we started actually planning in the details, it just made sense. We had great fun planning during our Engaged period, we wanted edible menus, herbal centrepieces and, our biggest stress, a recipe guestbook.
Though neither of us are from Nottinghamshire, we found the Pheasantry Brewery, East Markham, to be the perfect venue for our rustic and relaxed food-fest Wedding. The fact they let us play on their brewing equipment was the main attraction, but we also soon discovered how accommodating they were. They welcomed all our food themed ideas and comments at our tasting menu and put forward suggestions of their own. On the day they were so hands-on and helpful, and just ON IT, which I've since learned is rather rare.
the 6th September was a beautifully sunny day after a fortnight of rain. We had a very relaxed morning getting ready, my MUA cancelled on me 2 weeks prior and actually it was a blessing in disguise to be able to do my own makeup with my best friend in peace. But also a treat to have the lovely, Emma from The Style Lounge do my hair.

The Flower Room, Edwinstowe dropped off our flowers. Beautiful natural arrangements dotted with orange chillies and herbs to match the food theme, with rosemary for remembrance and dill to make the wedding car smell like pickles on my drive to the venue!!
The Ceremony was a blur, we had readings from both our mums; 'A Recipe for a Marriage' and 'You are the Bubbles'. We then had a bubble exit, as opposed to confetti, which was beautifully colourful and well organised by Danielle at the Pheasantry.
I led the speeches - scary but a must in my opinion - then on to the wedding breakfast, which is something guests still keep raving about. It was important to us to have a family style meal, where everyone serves each other, uniting the table. It was suggested by the catering team at the Pheasantry, that we nominated a guest from each table act as pie-server. They created such a spectacle with it, calling them up to the front, dressing them in hats and aprons and arming them with all the utensils, everyone was surprised and a few 'pie-servers' were heckled by member of their own table. 10/10 recommend doing this!
The rest of the day flew by and was captured beautifully by Nathan Walker and Jake at Swiftly Creative. Two lovely guys who just cracked on capturing the moments and leaving us to enjoy ourselves, very little posing from either of them.
I made my own wedding cake, a small pistachio cake for cutting, but had two homemade cakes in the back for guests. I'd also made chocolate truffles (in advance thank goodness for the freezer!) and we had paper pub quizzes which served as little conversation starters and entertainment for the plus-ones.
Our first dance was Hooked on a Feeling, performed by the highly entertaining Maxed Out. They played banger after banger and were just incredible to watch!
Looking back, I'd do it all over again, exactly how it was, it was perfectly imperfect. Anything that went wrong is something we will giggle about with family in future.
My advice would be:
Put both your personalities into your day, it's both of yours day and everyone is there to celebrate you.
Get your guests to upload their candid shots ASAP
I did have a spare dress, I bought cheap off vinted. I didn't want to use it but it was needed towards the end of the night when I was hot and uncomfortable.
Finally, please don't do the 'bury a sausage' trend, it's just a bit of waste!
