27 May, 2022Our Real Wedding
Our relationship started like a comedy romance movie, and our wedding was like a Disney fairytale love story.
We met on Tinder in December 2017 when I was starting to plan my return to Brazil a few months later.
Our first date was so special, and we both knew that there was something unique and magical between us. We knew we were meant to be together from the bottom of our hearts because we had never felt that way before on a first date.
We kept seeing each other, and the connection was getting stronger; however, it was January 2018, and I was returning to Brazil in February when Dom decided to ask me to be his girlfriend - I accepted and decided to stay longer.
After nearly two years of making great memories and having fun together, Dom took me to a lavender field where he went for a walk when we "matched" on Tinder. He proposed to me in August 2019.
On the way to the field, we saw an unforgettable double rainbow which was a sign of luck and happiness, according to my grandmother.
Continue reading »As I'm not a British citizen, the practical side of our marriage was quite bureaucratic, expensive and stressful as we had to sign some papers in Brazil. We spent four months away from each other as we waited for the final answer. Our request could have been denied, and there was a risk we would never see each other again.
Everything went well, but we didn't have a wedding celebration or party, so I moved back to the UK in February 2020, and we started the wedding plans; however, we all faced the pandemic, and we had to wait over two years to be able to have our wedding blessing and the celebration of our dreams.
It was challenging to look for my wedding dress during lockdowns, so I would only go to the shops when possible. I had one wedding dress in mind; however, I wanted to have a last look, and then I found the perfect dress for me.
It was hard to visit venues during that pandemic's challenging times, but we got organised to see as many places as possible when the lockdown rules were eased.
We chose Rowton Castle for the experience of having an intimate wedding and staying with our families in that lovely setting in Shrewsbury.
The castle decor was so sophisticated and beautiful, they had many suppliers to recommend, and even though the venue was not this close to our place (2.5 hours away), their package made our lives much easier.
I would say our wedding had a romantic / boho chic style; we chose the colours baby pink, dusty pink, and white and the details in gold.
We didn't have many Brazilian suppliers around the area, so I ensured we would also have a Brazilian touch.
Our wedding breakfast playlist had mainly Brazilian bossa nova, samba, and some big hits played in bossa nova too.
Our wedding cake flavours were cornish vanilla ice cream Victoria Sponge and Vanilla & Dulce de Leche (Brazilian style).
The favourite moment of my wedding was when I entered the church and saw my husband waiting for me; I was walking the aisle with my grandma beside me in spirit. Unfortunately, she left this world during the pandemic (January 2021), and I couldn't even say goodbye in person to her as I was locked in the UK. She was my mother; she worked very hard to raise me and is responsible for the woman I became, everything I am and everything I have.
I made a prayer rosary with our photo on it, and it was with my bouquet; my husband made me very emotional, mentioning and thanking her during his speech.
We had 12.5 hours of celebration, but it felt so fast. I wish I could go back to my wedding day and enjoy it slowly.
Our guests were so happy, and some of them say that it was one of the best days of their lives.
It was such a special day, and we will be proud to show the photos and videos to our kids in the future.
