G&G
07 Sep, 2024Our Real Wedding
G&G - we finally tie the knot! We had a micro introverts wedding. Why? Because wanted to not be stressed or overwhelmed. We wanted to be able to remember every moment. We wanted our focus to be a vintage and classic feel but also personal and relaxed. Because we are two introverted nerds, anything more than twenty people is too big of a wedding for us! We met over 10 years ago at university and hit it off because of our names. Gabrielle actually wrote it into her vows. Our wedding ceremony started late in the afternoon, 3:15pm to be exact, and we were so glad for that as it added to the relaxed feel for the day. And the music played for the ceremony was One Summer’s Day by Joe Hisaishi (Studio Ghibli’s film, Spirited Away) on the harp by the talented Jane - great song if you want all your guests in floods of tears. It was followed by a toast and a handfasting performed by our mums. This was reflected in our stationary, which Gabrielle made all by herself. Our dads got to play a role too, Gabriel’s dad filmed the ceremony and Gabrielle’s dad met here at the base of the aisle; a blend of old and new traditions. Everyone pretty much had a role to play. The only person not part of the wedding party who played a big role was our toastmaster, the lovely Tom. He ran the show, helped us to have a private first dance while he entertained our guests and if anything went wrong, we still don’t know about it. Craft is very important to Gabrielle, she made all the florals herself and dried quite a lot of it too, made the stationary, wedding favours, ring box and guest book (this ended up becoming our travel scrapbook for our honeymoon in Japan). We deliberately did a big gap after the ceremony and before the wedding breakfast so guests and ourselves could relax, freshen up, use the bar, pools or spa if they wanted. One of the sisters even had a nap and loved it as she came back pumped for the evening - score! Our guests enjoyed having the freedom to sit by the bar or retreat to the rooms we had checked them all into. We had no pressure and no demands of our guests. 7pm for the wedding breakfast, speeches, the tiramisù cake that Gabriel made (why have fruit cake when we could have the taste of Italy where he proposed to Gabrielle) and sparklers, it had a lovely intimate and fun dinner that joined to families. The whole weekend felt like a luxurious and understated weekend away.
