01 Jul, 2024Our Real Wedding
I couldn’t believe our luck when I woke up on our wedding morning. After a miserable start to July, the sun finally decided to make its a real appearance. My bridesmaids, parents and me all packed the final few items into the car and headed over to Millbridge. Arriving at the venue, I was again thankful we had found such an incredible place to celebrate our wedding day. The gardens were alive with flowers, bees and butterflies and the staff buzzed around full of smiles and excitement.
Heading up to the getting ready room, I was thrilled to see my fabulous MUA, Freddy, and she was all ready to go. We shared a giggle as everyone realised how long it was going to take to curl my hair. However, Freddy is a wiz and in no time I was curled and pinned and ready to relax with a well earned glass of fizz.
I had spent the last week writing our all the instructions needed to set up for the day and now it was Greg’s job to make sure all the signs, decor and details where we’re they needed to go. Thankful, he didn’t need to do much as the Millbridge and Kalm Kitchen team were all over it! I had DIY-ed a look of the decor for the day. I had made the orders of service, invitation, table names and wedding favours on canva. I was really pleased with them, and it was really well priced so we could spend more on the parts of the day we could keep moving forward.
Continue reading »For favours I made small drinks tokens and attached them to the place names. The table names were pictures of our pets, which was such a lovely personal touch, and the seating chart was made by myself, my dad and my brother-in-law. We used mdf to create two arched boards, painted them with our colour scheme and then used plastic lettering to create our seating plan. I then decorated them with faux flowers to add the colour and joy in. All this was set up beautifully by my soon-to-be husband and the Millbridge team.Soon our superb florist, Grace, had arrived. She had been busy at the Church setting up the most beautiful floral display. We had spent a lot of time talking about what we wanted for the day son Grace delivered more than I could have hoped for. The flowers were bright, joyful and perfectly complimented the theme. She popped up to the bridal room and filled me in on how everything was going.
The whole morning was relaxed, fun and absolutely perfect. It felt like no time at all until our photographer and Videographer arrived. Sarah was so brilliant. She popped up to us to say hello and the wizzed over to the boys to get some fantastic getting ready shots of them. Greg and I were so reassured by her professionalism and eye for detail. Tony, our videographer, was such a lovely calm presence for our day.
When Sarah returned to us, we’re were all made up and ready for to get in our dresses. My bridesmaids all wore slightly different Reformation silk dresses in a dusky blue. They really helped to give a relaxed but elegant vibe. And I was delighted with my sleek, lace dress from Truly Gorgeous Bridal. It was white lace, over a nude underlay with a stunning tulle waist veil. This was topped of with a cathedral length veil dotted with tiny sparkling gems. I felt beautiful. Sarah helped us to make sure we got all the best pictures and with all the photos, videos and fun going on I didn’t have time to be nervous!
I was just so excited to get down the aisle and be married to Greg.As we edged nearer to 1.30 we realised a miracle had happened, we were ahead of schedule! I don’t think anyone was more surprised than me. Greg had spent the whole week reminding my my punctual bridesmaid that she was in charge of keeping us on time. In the end, he didn’t need to worry as my meticulous planning had paid off and we were all ready to go. We headed downstairs and met our driver Ian. Greg and I had booked our wedding car a year in advance with Christopher’s Cars, and when I saw it again on our wedding I was so pleased with our choice. The sleek silvery Bentley looked beautiful in the sunshine and had plenty of room for the bridal team. My dad and I waited, whilst the car made its first trip to the Church with my bridesmaids and mum. As we waited the Millbridge and Kalm Kitchen team gathered to chat and keep us calm (and hydrated!). They were so wonderful to have around and soon enough Ian was back to take us to the Church. Even Ian was impressed with our timing keeping and commented it was a rare pleasure to drive a punctual bride!
It was a short five minute drive from Millbridge to St Thomas on-the Bourne. When we pulled up Sandy, our reverend was gathered with my bridesmaid and two of the groomsmen. I had to hold back the tears as we gathered in the foyer and prepared for the procession. I was unbelievably excited and just wanted to sprint down the aisle to see Greg. Luckily we had been practicing our graceful slow walks, so I resisted this urge. I turned to my sister, to see her smiling through tears. We were all on cloud 9 and ready to go. The vergers gave us smile and a nod and sent the Bridesmaids down the aisle. Jingling with nerves and excitement I listened out for the first notes of my music, and finally heard the pianist start the melody of “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison. Taking my dads arm, he turned to me and whispered “right foot first”! He was definitely worried about getting the walk wrong! But it wouldn’t have mattered, I could have hopped, skipped and boogied down the aisle at that point! The double doors were pulled wide and I choked back tears. Seeing all the people I loved gathered into the Church was just the best moment in the world. We reached the turning point, when I could finally see Greg, he looked so handsome. I beamed at him and saw him blink back tears. Reaching the end of the aisle, my dad stepped back and took his seat. The service began. Sandy was amazing, making it personal and joyful I’m every way. One of my favourite moments was during the signing of the registry three of my close friends sang. Honestly, it was one of the most beautiful things I have heard! They were incredible and added so much beauty to our day. With the rings exchanged, the registry signed and the first kiss shared, we were off back out the Church to the sounds of Stevie Wonders “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”, as a married couple.
One tip I would give, is practice your dips! I knew I wanted a dip kiss as we left the church, so Greg and I practiced this at home so we could nail it on the day. We were so glad we did as this is one of our favourite shots that Sarah got!As we left the Church, Greg and I got to enjoy our first few minutes of married life in private. I would definitely recommend every couple has these 5 minutes to themselves. It was so special to share our first reactions and moments for the morning with each other. The photographer and groomsmen were busy setting up for the confetti shot and our dog sitter arrived with our puppy Tayto ready for a big cuddle from her newly married parents!
Our florist had created a gorgeous colour accessory so even Tayto was dressed up for the day. Sarah was fantastic at this point, make sure all the shots we wanted were taken quickly to maximise our time with guests. As everyone was ushered off to Millbridge, Sarah snuck us off for a few private moments and photos. Then we were on our way to our reception!Arriving back at Millbridge we were greeted by the team holding two chilled glasses of fizz, it’s these small details that really make Millbridge such a special place to get married. The sun continued to shine as our guests enjoyed lawn games made special by my Dad and brother-in-law.
The putting hole was a real winner, with everyone competing to get the most hole in ones! The cocktail reception felt like it flew by and it wasn’t long before we were ready to make our grand entrance. Walking in to the dining hall to a cheer, I was blown away by how stunning everything was. The flowers were outstanding, bright and colourful, the tables were laid with love and attention to detail by the Kalm Kitchen team and the whole room just shone!
We took our seats and prepared for the only part of the day that I was nervous for….speeches! My dad was up first, giving a hilarious and touching speech that reduced me to tears! He was followed by the best man, who had everyone in stitches!
Greg was up next and his speech was perfect! We had agreed not to look at each other as we knew, the minute we did, the tear would start! However, with my speech up next I knew it wasn’t going to be enough to not look at Greg. I accepted my fate and made it through with only a few pauses for tears! And closing out the speeches, my sister. Her speech was wonderful, having us all cackling as she recalled some of the highlights of our childhood.
With everyone teary eyed, we cheers-ed for the final time and started on the food! It was delicious! We used our time between courses to go round each table and thank all of our guests. It was so lovely to take the time to see all of them and be able thank the, personally. Sarah wished us of one more time for a few final shots before dessert, which are some of our favourite from the day! We welcomed evening guests at 8 and then cut our cake! We had been excited for this for the whole day. Betty, our baker, had created a stunning cake, decorated with fresh flowers and then a series of mini-sponges for guests to munch on. They were delightful! We wanted to have something for everyone, and this gave us two different flavours for everyone to enjoy!
Our evening was trundle kicked off by our live band, Ceder Grove, who were simply outstanding. They had learnt our first dance song “All Your’n” by Tyler Childers and Greg and I were blown away by how amazing it sounded. We swayed our way through a short choreographed section that Greg’s friend has kindly put together for us. We had practiced it, but never in my dress! Thankful we made it through! The band kicked it up a notch with some absolute bangers and soon the dance floor was full!
The band wasn’t the only entertainment, we also had Party Delights working a Photo Booth, and I couldn’t recommend them more! They were so fun and friendly and everyone loved them! After a few dances I was ready to change into my evening look. I had been unsure if I would want to change out of my dress but I was so glad I had decided to bring a change just in case. Putting on my sparkly Nadine Merabi jumpsuit I knew I had made the right choice! I was really able to dance and enjoy the rest of my night without worrying about people trending on my dress. With my jumpsuit on, and feeling like Margot Robbie in Barbie, we danced the night away with our friends and family. As we headed off at the end of the night, Greg and I agreed, we had never felt more loved.
