25 Sep, 2024Our Real Wedding
We booked our wedding at Crowcombe before getting engaged after seeing Crowcombe was having viewings from a social media ad. As soon as we went to visit, we knew this would be the perfect venue so booked it there and then. We then got engaged about a month later after 7 wonderful months together. We decided to have a slightly longer engagement as we did get engaged quite quickly, and that way we were able to have our wedding on our anniversary in September. We didn't do any wedding planning for a while as we had over a year and a half until the big day, so the beginning of our engagement was very relaxed.
As I've grown up and been to University in three different countries, 90% of my friends and family live abroad, so about a year before the wedding, we started sending out save the dates to give those living outside of the UK plenty of time to sort out visas, plane tickets and annual leave.
It was then time to plan out our outfits! Keir is very in touch with his Scottish roots so was not a question that he was going to wear a kilt. His clan colours are dark blue and dark green, so we thought that would be a great theme for the wedding; the ceremony guests were asked to wear something along those lines. For my dress, I had the exact sort of dress I wanted in mind so I thought the process would be easy. I booked an appointment in Bristol to try on dresses in the spring of 2024. I was going to go with my best friend but unfortunately, she couldn't make it in the end, and although not traditional at all, I invited my then-fiancé and his mom to come along with me. I ended up going with a dress that was completely different to what I originally planned, but it was the perfect dress. As my now-husband was there with me, we decided that his outfit would be a surprise, and boy it was!

We wanted to keep the theme of blue and green, and add a bit of purple to it to add a pop of colour, and because it's my favourite colour. Not knowing much about flowers, did not realise that it would be difficult to get flowers of those colours in September, so she ordered them from the Netherlands! Needless to say, they looked absolutely stunning.
My husband was the one who sorted out the cake and he did an incredible job. We went for a three-tiered cake covered with white fondant and covered with dark blue edible roses. We had the cutest cake topper as well, us as wooden figurines along with our two dogs.
Now onto the day! Luckily we both were able to take time off of work to have the whole week of the wedding off which was much needed. Most of my friends arrived in the country on the same day, so my husband kindly drove everyone from Bristol airport to our place. Once everyone arrived we made our way to the venue. Luckily my husband's family is from Taunton so we were able to have tons of help from his family, including his sister and mom kindly picking up the cake on the morning of the wedding. It was a bit of a frenzy trying to get everything into the car (admittedly had to do multiple trips!) and while Keir was getting everyone to the venue, I started setting up. I had spent a lot of time making all the stationary myself, as well as table cards, reserved place cards for the ceremony, printouts of a game we played during the dinner and much more. Working as a doctor, there's not much opportunity to be creative so wedding planning was an incredible outlet for my creative side. We met on bumble so also had a favor bag that we bought off the bumble website which was a lovely touch. We spent the rest of the day trying to relax, and greet everyone in. The food for the dinner that day was incredible!
The day itself went by in a blur, but everyone told me it would so I spent some more time living in the moment and appreciating every second. Our wedding coordinator, did an incredible job ensuring we were both calm and ready for the day ahead of us and that everything ran smoothly. My day started at around 7 am, which was rough after not being able to sleep at all due to excitement. We had a whole schedule of whoever needed makeup and hair done so all the girls got together in the get-ready room. The more time passed, the more nervous I was, and those last minutes before going out into the ceremony hall were some of the most nerve-wracking things I've ever done. I was so excited to see my then-fiancé, but I was so nervous walking in my dress in front of everybody. One of my favorite moments of the day was reading our vows to each other - safe to say there wasn't a dry eye in the room! I was so nervous reading out such an intimate and vulnerable speech, but as soon as I started reading them, it was truly like we were the only ones in the room.
As soon as the ceremony was over, everything was a blur. We were able to decompress and process everything that had happened afterwards with just the two of us, and then it was photo time! It rained that morning so we weren't hopeful about outside photos, but as the ceremony was happening the sun came out and luckily we were able to get tons of photos outside, which ended up being so stunning. It was then time for the wedding breakfast. The food was incredible, and I'm still thinking about the lamb shank that I got. We then had the speeches and played the shoe game - we both had one of each shoe in our hands, a question would be asked about who would be more likely to do something and then we raised either mine or Keir's shoes, was a laugh!
After the food, we then had some tea and coffee after the cutting of the cake, and at that time a lot of the evening guests started showing up. So we were all in the main hall greeting everyone and giving a chance for all the guests to catch up with each other. Once everyone was there, it was evening party time! After some battles with the Bluetooth speaker, we were able to make it work and the party began. We made our own wedding playlist on spotify so was a surreal moment to be able to dance with all our closest friends and family to all of our favorite songs.
After one too many drinks, we all went up to the groom's get-ready room which had a pool table, and we partied into the morning. Needless to say was rough for everyone to get up the morning after. Luckily, most of the ceremony guests stayed overnight for two nights at the venue, so after a heavy night of partying they didn't have to go far! In summary, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day!
