01 Oct, 2021Our Real Wedding
Kieran and I have been together for nearly 10 years, we met at the local catholic secondary school and went away to different universities before both graduating from Plymouth university. I was beginning to think it was never going to happen until Easter Sunday 2021 Kieran curated a very well-thought-out Easter Egg Hunt with him on one knee at the end. Having both grown up catholic it fit perfectly as a day that celebrates new beginnings!
Being one of those brides who has always dreamed of her wedding day, a lot of it was pretty much planned as soon as we got engaged - it was just a case of booking everything. We gave ourselves 6 months to plan our wedding because we wanted the date to be close to our 10-year anniversary of being together. I went dress shopping and found the one only two weeks after getting engaged. In fact, I knew so much want I wanted that it was the first dress I tried on. Kieran and the groomsmen found amazing deals for their 3-piece suits from Next.
It rained all morning right up until I needed to leave for the church! After that, we were blessed with a beautiful day with just a light shower as we were going inside for the wedding breakfast. It's meant to be good luck to have rain on your wedding day anyway! Our wedding breakfast in the barn at the castle was exactly what I had always pictured.
Continue reading »We got married at St. Francis Catholic Church in Maidstone, the church that I have grown up attending and that means a lot to me. Our reception venue was the gorgeous Allington Castle, hidden away in our local neighbourhood a true hidden gem on the banks of the River Medway. All the wedding stationery; invites, menus and place names were DIYed by myself. We gave away seed packets as favours because growing my own is a passion of mine and the place names were made from wildflower seed paper for people to take home and plant!
We never truly had a set theme for our day other than lots of greenery and I knew I wanted to incorporate sage green and peach with the dresses and flowers (throwing back to both our parents' weddings where peach was clearly the in-thing in 1991!). Our beautiful flowers were created by a family friend who is a local florist and the gin-themed centrepieces and table plan were all DIYed by myself.
Of course, having gone to Plymouth University, Plymouth Gin had to be the main feature for our head table! The cake again was made by a family friend and decorated with flowers from the florist - some of the mini gins surrounding the cake were definitely missing by the end of the night! Our awesome band The Nashville Heat really kept the party atmosphere going in the evening and everyone had a brilliant time up on the dance floor! Even our priest was having a good old boogie in the evening! He was once on Popmaster on Radio 2 so knows good music when he hears it!
For both of us, the most important part of the day was our marriage in the church, everything else was just a bonus. We were not so fussed about having anything too extravagant with the decor because the venue itself was gorgeous and we really just wanted to have the most amazing time with our friends and family! My favourite part of the day was probably walking through the confetti outside the church, it was just the happiest moment both for us and everyone who was there. Following the wedding, I was getting choked up trying to tell Kieran that the day was everything I could have imagined and more.
