26 Oct, 2019Our Real Wedding
We met at Download Festival which is a rock music festival at Donnington Park back in June 2014 and we've been together ever since. I was at university at the time so we were long distance for a year and a half. I then moved from Chichester university and my home town on Hertfordshire to live with him in Milton Keynes.
He proposed on Valentine's day 2018 in our flat after I finished work. He did it specifically on this day as I'd always said I didn't want to be proposed to on Valentine's day as I feel it is very cheesy. He is always playfully annoying me and he believed this would be the perfect way to get me! It was awkward as I'd only bought him a Toblerone...
My mother and I visited the Wed2B in Milton Keynes last year, not long after Kieron and I got engaged. We weren't intending to buy anything at the time, we just wanted to have some fun and see what suited me. I tried on 3 or 4 dresses until I tried on the Madalina in Ivory which was new in at the time. We knew straight away that it was the one, despite it being one I picked up on a whim as it was not what I believed would suit me at all being a curvier bride. I didn't want to take it off! It accentuated my figure in all the right places, and as it had a corseted back, it meant I had a fair bit of leeway if I were to lose or put on weight. We made some slight alterations to the sleeves, making them off the shoulder as this suited me best, but otherwise, the dress was just perfect. The lace detailing was classic and beautiful, and with the hoop skirt underneath it was easy to move around in. The store assistant who helped me in and out of the dress was wonderful, she was very honest and clearly experienced and she made me feel beautiful and confident.

We wanted quite a low key wedding so we opted for a barbecue wedding breakfast and we had the whole place exclusively for the day. It was cozy, warm colours throughout which fit our autumnal theme perfectly. It also had a beautiful lake surrounded by trees which would have been perfect for October when the leaves would be on the ground. We got married 26.10.19.
My immediate family travelled from Hertfordshire to Milton Keynes and stayed in a beautiful air BNB for the weekend, so we had somewhere pretty and comfortable to get ready. I also had family coming from Scotland and as far as America. Kieron's family are mainly local to Milton Keynes, but he has a lot of family that travelled from Cornwall too.
He got ready at his parents and I got ready with my family at the air BNB. We had a small ceremony in our local registry office which has recently been renovated and it was beautiful.I made a cd of beautiful piano instrumental versions of songs from video games and rock songs we love which played throughout our ceremony. I have a particularly long maiden name which was a welcome source of amusement as Kieron had to keep repeating it during the service. We had a small but beautiful plum coloured Nissan Figaro for our wedding car which was a struggle to get me and my dress in to take us to our reception, but my hubby and dad managed between them!
My bridesmaids were all in deep purple swing dresses which is our favourite colour, and our flower girls carried funny signs instead of flowers ("Last chance to run Kieron!"). My dad walked me down the aisle and we had the same expression on our faces - trying not to cry!It started raining very heavily just as we got to our reception venue but we all laughed about it soon after. We had our wedding breakfast (an indoor barbecue) and speeches by my dad, Kieron's 2 best men and Kieron himself who completely winged his speech but brought me to tears none the less. Kieron's mother made our wedding favours which were little spooky jars of bath salts with either a small silver bat or cat charm. We cut the cake (very wonky) and had our first dance which is a song called Endlessly by one of our favourite bands, Amarathe. We were then treated to an amazing surprise acoustic set by my friend Jennifer Owens who appeared on last years X Factor. It was so beautiful, and was also a fantastic surprise for our photographer and videographer! Our DJ after gave us a fantastic mix of wedding classics with some heavier music thrown in to please me and Kieron. We had a photobooth for all our families to make memories together, as well as a spooky sweet cart as per our Halloween theme. We also had karaoke!
I absolutely love Halloween, so we wanted the wedding as close to the 31st as possible. Our theme was autumnal, skulls, roses with more fun and spooky Halloween theme later in the evening (complete with life-size skeleton sliding down the bannisters!) We are both pretty alternative so we wanted our wedding to reflect that and be one that our guests wouldn't forget! Our venue was littered with carved pumpkins, glass skulls vases with flowers, logs with overspilling flowers and kitschy Halloween ornaments. Our cake was decorated by Kieron's mother who is fantastically artistic. There was a cascade of roses and skulls from the top to the bottom of the cake. Lucy's Toppers on Etsy created our cake topper which was a cartoon depiction of me and my husband in our wedding gear, me dragging Kieron away from his PS4 and our Cat Euphie watching!
It rained the whole day, but our photographers were fantastic and came well prepared with a brolly and got us some beautiful outdoor pictures with the Autumnal backdrop before it really started to hammer down.
After our cake cut and first dance to a beautiful power ballad by one of our favourite bands, one of my best friends from university treated us all to a surprise vocal set and it was incredible. It felt like a film!
We had the absolute best day and nothing, not even the weather spoilt it!
My hair was done by a family friend Elle Curran ( @locksand_lashes on Instagram), makeup was done by the fantastically talented @sophieduffymakeup (Instagram), Venue decorations, bouquet, stationery and cake were all made by my fabulously talented mother in law, We had a DJ for main entertainment but we were surprised with a set by my incredibly talented friend @jenniferowensmusic (Instagram) and our videographer and photographer where the amazing guys at @p.s visuals and @jamiefloodphotography and all hair flower accessories for myself and the bridesmaids and flower girls were made by Kochetova on Etsy. Our venue was the Inn on the Lake in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, a local pub/restaurant.
I would advise any brides looking for their dress to always try on some dresses that you wouldn't normally go for. I never thought I'd feel comfortable in a more form-fitting dress being a curvier bride, but sometimes the most unexpected dress is the one!
