24 Sep, 2022Our Real Wedding
When planning our wedding, our main priorities we to make sure it was as sustainable as possible, a true reflection of us as a couple, and a celebration of our relationship with all our friends and family having the best time. This celebration had extra importance as in 2019 I, Libby, had breast cancer. Having made it through treatment and being in remission added an extra layer of emotion to the day. One of our friends said afterwards they had never been to a wedding with so must love in it.
To make it sustainable, some of the considerations made were; we used Hitched wedding website instead of invitations. We encouraged guests to wear clothes they already owned. My dress was preloved & then personalised with a dip-dyed over skirt made by a small UK business. Food was locally sourced. Waste was all collected & recycled afterwards. Re-usable plastic glasses were rented instead of disposable drinkware.
To make the day personal to us we chose a completely unique venue, found through Hitched, Harewood Forest. It was a stunning rustic and natural venue in the middle of a forest. This was perfect for us as we like nature. Nick proposed to me at mile 19 of a 20-mile hike along the Welsh coast near Rhossili Bay - we like the outdoors! The natural beauty of the venue meant we only needed minimal decoration, we just added a few home made touches to add a pop of colour within all the greenery. Paper lanterns, painted pots with plants in, painted photos frames for a photo booth, and homemade biscuit favours. The 'splash of colour' & homemade nature of the decoration tied the theme together and reflected us perfectly.

To make sure everyone enjoyed the day, we stocked the bar ourselves, prioritised paying for a good live band and designed the day to encourage conversation. Our meal was all sharing platters, the seating plan mix up groups & funny conversation starters linked to our first date were scattered around to help the conversation & laughs flow.
The whole day could not have been more perfect. A blur of love, colour and happiness topped off by having a glamping site set up in a clearing near the venue so the party didn't need to end early and guests didn't need to worry about making their way home. Our only regret is that it didn't last long enough!
