Our Real Wedding

My darling Oliver proposed on the 9th January 2021, the coldest day but our initial anniversary and I had no idea it was coming. He paid for me to get my nails done so the pictures were magical. The ring sparkled in the moonlight and I'd practised my reaction like the movies, but realistically what came out was "oh my god, are you sure?!".

We spent months looking at venues, wondering how we'd scrape together a measly £14k, and I spent more time at work picking up extra shifts as a nurse than I did seeing the love of my life. We were watching Bridgerton together one Sunday and they mentioned Colin taking Marina to Gretna Green, and suddenly it dawned on us - why on earth not? Heck, it would be an adventure, so we ordered some brochures and emailed Zoe about packages. By November, our wedding was booked for the September after.

Our big day was nothing short of magic.

We arrived Friday afternoon after a long drive from Lincolnshire, numb bums and a bit of a mare picking up the license - we drove to the wrong town! But from the get-go, we were calm and composed, and everything flowed beautifully. Oli and I had our last meal and drinks as singles, and he went up to the honeymoon suite, which Gretna kindly upgraded for us for free! and boy, it was beautiful! I settled in for a night with my bridesmaids and my mum, watching the movie Bridesmaids. In the morning, me and Oli did a room swap (exited beautifully by my ninja bridesmaids) and we took the elevator to the 3rd floor. The honeymoon suite was absolutely stunning and the perfect place to get ready. I was joined by my makeup artist, hairdresser and my videographer to share those special moments in preparation for the most nerve-racking experience of my life!
