17 Aug, 2024Our Real Wedding
We’re famous in our friendship group for our house parties. We were the first in our friendship group to move out so we were always the hosts and have stayed that way! We have annual parties for our birthdays, New Year’s and summer BBQs, so we wanted our wedding to feel like one of our house parties. One of our groomsmen said in his speech, “I like to see their house as a no judgement zone where everyone is welcome. They’re the couple you can go to for anything and they will do anything for their loved ones.” That’s how we wanted the day to feel. A welcome, fun, joyful safe space for our favourite people.
Our venue was so unique and I’m so glad we booked them. It’s very eco-friendly; it uses solar power for electricity and biomass for heating water. Some of the food is grown on site and waste is composted there. The toilets are flushed with rain water and the venue encourages recycling and reusing as much as possible, they even have a Facebook group for past, present and further couples to share planning advice and recycle decor. The day was perfect, fun, relaxed and so full of love.

All the signage, stationary and newspapers were made on canva. The bunting was sewn by the bride. The seating plan was made from the groom’s old skateboards and the order of the day was a recycled guitar and vinyl records.
The personal touches meant so much and were scattered throughout the day. We had photos from all of our family members weddings and loved ones that are no longer with us.
The groom is a skateboarder so the seating chart and guest book were skateboards. The groom also plays guitar and both of us love music so we had the guitar and vinyl order of the day.
Our football team is Newcastle (which was also paddy’s late mum’s football team) so we had Newcastle badges for favours, as well as a whiskey toast for absent friends and family. Our menus had the lyrics for our first dance on the back and our newspapers had our love story.
