12 Dec, 2020Our Real Wedding
So originally we were due to get married on 11th April 2020 at Hothorpe Hall, but unfortunately the pandemic hit and we had to postpone due to the first lockdown. We moved the date to the 12th December with the hope that the virus would have died down in the following 8 months. As the date got closer it was clear this was not going to be the case and we started reducing our guest list to 30, and then to 15 as restrictions started to come in. We had much a discussion about whether to postpone again or go ahead with a smaller wedding, but when Richard became ill in October it made up our mind that we really wanted to get married if we could. So sandwiched between lockdowns we had a tier 3 wedding, so a ceremony with 15 guests permitted, no reception. It was very hard reducing the guest list, I had to cut my bridesmaids from 6 to just the one, one of Richards best men lived in Australia so he was unable to come, and a lot of family and friends were dearly missed. We set up a live stream so at least people could join us virtually for the ceremony.

We went our separate ways at the end of school and reconnected 10 years after via a dating app. I even was referred to our shared chemistry lesson in my first message to Richard. After dating for 4 years Richard popped the question in a candle lit living room, and then whisked me off for dinner.
I tried on quite a few dresses before finding the one! it was an opportunistic Sunday shopping trio to wed2b t try to settle on a style I like and I fell in love with my dress. I had been deliberating between a fire hugging dress or a princess dress and felt this beautiful strapless fit and flare dress ticked all of the boxes. Just in case the dress wasn't enough I also had a cathedral length veil and a silver and pearl hairband. My shoes were from Bella Rose boutique where their lovely seamstress Cherilyn did my dress alterations. Richard hadn't got round to buying his suit before the first lockdown but luckily had found what he had wanted so was able to order online from T.M.Lewin.
Our day was a very special day. I had a Covid secure send off with two of my original bridesmaids the night before, in my friends barn watching "bridesmaids" and eating hot dogs. I really do have the best friends as it was 4 degrees so we were all dressed in our ski gear! Me and my bridesmaid Harriet got ready at my Mums house. It was a fairly relaxed affair with not as many people getting ready. We had hair and make up done by Katie Attwood and Katie Morely respectively, and even had time for a glass of fizz before heading off. My Uncle drove us after decorating his car with ribbons and my lovely friends came to wave me off from my Mums house. Richard had got to the venue early to set up the live stream, with the help of his best man Joe. We had a Christmas theme, and the venue and our amazing florist Amy of A A Moore & Son did a fantastic job of decorating the venue with festive cheer. My very talented auntie made bags of homemade marshmallow hearts as wedding favours for guests to take away. The ceremony went without a hitch and before one we were walking out as husband and wife! We then had photographs outside the venue and even a rainbow came out to join us!
As we could not have a reception we had to improvise by having cake and fizz in the car park. Everyone was amazing and donned their coats to join in the celebration despite the winter weather. The cake was a two-tier, chocolate orange and white chocolate and raspberry made by the lady that bakes, and it was delicious. We even had an impromptu first dance as my dad bought a mobile speaker and disco ball! Sadly then the guests had to disperse and we went and had some more photos around the venue before we also had to go. We then got home to find our house decorated with just married signs and a continental breakfast on our doorstep courtesy of our lovely next door neighbour. We then had another dance in our living room before enjoying a wedding breakfast of Dominoes pizza!!
Sadly being in tier 3 we could not go anywhere for a minimoon, but we did manage to have a relaxing afternoon at Owl House day spa. We are hoping to go on a honeymoon to Hawaii when we can.
It was such a magical day despite all the restrictions. As soon as I set foot on that aisle I knew this was exactly what I wanted to do, I wanted to marry that wonderful guy at the end! We are hoping to have a big celebration party in the summer of 2022 so we can celebrate with all our family and friends. We were overwhelmed with all the love and best wishes shown to us on our wedding day, we feel very lucky.
