17 Aug, 2021Our Real Wedding
We wanted a small intimate affair and covid (unfortunately) was the perfect excuse. We had only managed one date when we met before we went into lockdown. Our wedding at the beautiful Whitstable Castle was to be our second! We did everything, pretty much ourselves. I made my dress, the bridesmaids and the waistcoats. I made the cake, mainly because I have a nut allergy, and we made all the decorations for the table. Our invites and even our own wedding DVD. I even did my own hair and makeup as well as the bridesmaids. We used meadow floral creations for our artificial bouquets and buttonholes. The photographer has been a friend of mine for years at Dream Photography. We had 15 guests. It was perfect. The ceremony was at 12 noon. My son , who is a Sergeant in the Air Trainings corps, gave me away. Proudest moment of my life. We made our entrance into the breakfast not as man and wife but as a new family with my two children. Entering to the blinding lights Tik Tok dance which we had done through the first lockdown. Shaun and I surprised our guests with an impromptu quickstep in the middle of the breakfast. Shaun is incredibly shy, to do this literally took everyone by surprise. Following cutting the cake and the toasts, it ended. We said goodbye and headed off on our honeymoon to a secluded log cabin with a hot tub! Perfect. We sourced as many items from independent UK retailers. And we couldn't have been happier with a day that reflected who Shaun and I were as a couple and how we were now a new family. We had literally been in our own bubble since we met and to go into the world as husband and wife now is an amazing feeling.
