20 May, 2022Our Real Wedding
Our micro-wedding is proof that it’s not about spending big money or being lavish, it’s about love and being yourself, having a day that represents you as a couple regardless of tradition or expectations. As introverts, we wanted something small, low-key and relaxing. We held the ceremony the local registry office -a pretty, mock gothic house in a park, surrounded by trees and purple rhododendrons. With only 17 guests, the ceremony was beautiful, intimate and moving. We chose “A Lovely Love Story” as our reading and wrote our own promise vows. My dress was from ASOS, long sleeved and embellished with beads that imitated flowers and leaves. A dried gypsophila flower crown from Etsy and a narrow veil completed my outfit. I bought beautiful flowers from a supermarket, rearranged them and made my bouquet and buttonhole. We went to the woods for more photos, taken by Hugh Boyd Photography, an old university friend who made us laugh and feel comfortable. Two gazebos were set up in our garden, with rustic tables and benches underneath. Jars of gypsophila, bunting and fairy lights decorated the space. Garden games and hula hoops were set up on the lawn. Inside the conservatory, I set up a makeshift photo booth and put props and an instax camera out - probably one of my favourite ideas. For favours, we got personalised love heart sweets and wildflower seeds wrapped in floral fabric, tied with twine.Clemie’s Vegan Cakes made us a lemon and elderflower cake, decorated at the bottom with a floral crown and topped with a personalised wooden cake topper. It was a tiny wedding. Casual, rustic and a little bit quirky - but so us and so perfect.
