14 Sep, 2024Our Real Wedding
Our wedding story started on 18th August 2023 when Will proposed to me. We were having a picnic in a very special place, the park we were first able to see each other during the pandemic after months apart. After the reality of that amazing day had sunk in, we started wedding planning pretty much straight away. We knew that we didn't want to have a long engagement, so aimed to get married at some point the following year.
After spending some time researching venues, we decided to book with Horsted Place Hotel because it had everything we wanted; plenty of indoor and outdoor space, picturesque grounds and an impressive, classy feel. This was when things really started getting exciting and we could start envisaging how we wanted our day to be.
We knew we wanted to get married in a church, so we managed to book St. Michael & All Angels church which is just over the road from Horsted Place. The church was perfect for us due to its countryside feel and the small interior, which was well suited to our 60 guests.

I ended up visiting only 1 shop and finding and purchasing my surprising dream dress on the same day - an off the shoulder ball gown covered in embellishments and sparkle. It was made even more special by the fact that my mum had purchased her wedding dress from the same shop for her wedding in the 90s.
We decided on the colour scheme next. I knew I wanted dusty pink for my bridesmaid dresses and my bouquet and we decided to compliment this with sage green which Will ended up having as his suit colour. The colour scheme was reflected throughout the stationery, flowers, bridesmaids outfits, cake and small details like my nail varnish.
I wanted to do as many homemade/DIY elements as I could, so I drew and created all the save the dates, invites, place cards, order of service booklets and other signage. Although this did add a little extra stress, it was so nice to see all my creations and hard work come together and look so good on the day.
I have so many favourite moments of the day, but one that stands out was getting into the car after the ceremony and having some precious moments alone to take in the fact that we were now husband and wife! I will forever treasure our special day and I wish I could relive it over and over again.
