Rumours have been swirling about who Meghan will pick to design the dress that’s set to go down as one of the most famous in history. Will she go for a British designer or will she stick to her roots with an American one? Will she go fitted, or for billowing lace like Kate Middleton?

We separated the fact from fiction to round-up the five designers who are in the running for creating Meghan’s wedding dress.

Ralph & Russo

Australian duo Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo have established themselves as the go-to haute couture designers, loved by A-listers, royalty and billionaires alike. They are now the frontrunners to be Meghan’s dress designers after she chose one of their sheer, ruffled designs for her engagement shoot (worth an estimated £56,000!).

Not only that, but their head designers were spotted checking out the students’ work at the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace recently, who were the embroiderers behind Kate’s dress in 2011. With their atelier just a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace too, it’s super handy.

They’re known for their elaborate, textured designs so a gown by Ralph & Russo would be quite something to see on Saturday.

Erdem

Turkish-Canadian designer Erdem Moralioglu is a favourite among the royals and loved by Meghan. She actually chose to wear a £1,200 floral Erdem dress to the wedding of Prince Harry’s friend Tom ‘Skippy’ Inskip in Jamaica last year, where Harry was usher. Could she choose to wear one of his designs for her own wedding too?

Kate has been spotted in Erdem several times and Princess Eugenie picked one of their dresses for her engagement announcement earlier this year, so Meghan would be in good company.

Choosing a Canadian designer would also be a wonderful nod to the country Meghan has called home for several years, and where she first met her future husband Harry.

Famous for their floral patterned dresses, Meghan would be very on-trend if she chose Erdem.

Alexander McQueen

Sarah Burton is creative director of the British brand founded by the late Alexander McQueen. We already know she’s an experienced hand at making wedding dresses, as Burton was charged with creating Kate’s wedding dress in 2011, which has gone down in history. Kate’s dress cost an estimated £250,000 so let’s hope the royals have deep pockets should they choose to go for McQueen.

Since she settled in the UK, Meghan has been seen several times in McQueen, including a sharp tailored suit and an emerald green dress. With her passion for the brand and its royal wedding connections, McQueen could be a winner.

The question is: would Meghan choose long-sleeved lace like Kate or something much more unconventional?

Burberry

The Beckhams aren’t the only ones who are big fans of Burberry. The brand have the royal seal of approval from Meghan and her future sister-in-law Kate, who’ve both been spotted in their gorgeous coats.

Their creative director Christopher Bailey is set to leave the brand at the end of this year so will designing Meghan’s dress be his final bow? A beautiful Burberry wedding dress would be the ideal parting gift from the talented designer.

Stella McCartney

Another brand that Meghan has shown allegiance to since moving to the UK is Stella McCartney. The Brit designer has shown off what she can do with wedding dresses before as she designed the gown that Nancy Shevell wore when she tied the knot with Stella’s dad Paul McCartney. The knee-length, fitted dress could give us a hint to the quirky design that Stella might pull out the bag if she creates Meghan’s dress.

Stella and Meghan also share a similar ethos and vegan lifestyle (Meghan eats vegan on weekdays), which we know has been important for Harry and Meghan in choosing their wedding suppliers. Their cake is local and organic, and their flowers and seasonal.
