Asian Wedding Venues: Ask the Experts

When it comes to working out the price of hiring an Asian wedding venue, there are many factors to take into consideration. That's why we asked our wedding experts to share their insights into planning the perfect Asian wedding.

Asian weddings traditionally have a larger guest list, which can lead to greater costs. On the other hand, many couples hosting Asian weddings will opt for dry hire, driving down the price of the venue.

Anisha Vasani, Creative and Luxury Wedding Director, sheds some light: "The average cost for an Asian wedding venue for dry hire ranges based on the choice of venue from top stately manor houses to luxury hotels in Central London. Catering fees will be an additional cost.

"Many Asian catering brands provide a package cost with both venue hire and catering cost per head, which can range anything from £80 - £250 per head for one dining option for a wedding lunch or dinner reception."

How Much is the Average Price of an Asian Wedding?

As reported in our National Wedding Survey 2022, the average cost of a UK wedding in 2022 was £18,400. However, as we know, weddings are like snowflakes - no two are the same. When it comes to Asian weddings, there are several factors to take into account, such as different styles of dresses and a traditionally larger guest list.

Anisha expands on this, "It has been reported that the UK British Asian wedding industry is worth over £3 billion a year with the average Asian couple spending an average of £50,000 - £80,000 on their wedding, and costs are only expected to grow.

"Many Asian couples spend a total of a £100,000 or more for multiple events during their wedding celebrations.

Sikh, Muslim and Hindu weddings quite often have a minimum starting budget of £30,000 due to the number of event rituals that complete these weddings along with a large guest list which can reach up to 1,000 attendees."

Meanwhile, Gurdev from Ram Singh Photographers shares: "The average price of an Asian wedding venue in the UK can vary widely based on location, size, and level of service.

"Generally, you can expect to pay between £2k and £15k for the venue alone before you add décor, catering, live entertainment and other exciting features. Let’s not forget the venue is one thing but what you do with it is something else entirely and this is where the cost’s start going up!

"Smaller venues in less expensive locations or smaller venues can cost between £2k-£4k, whilst mid-range venues in more expensive areas can cost up to £10k. For premium venues in cities like London, the price can go up to £15k.

"Asian wedding’s usually have a large guest-lists so it’s a good idea to visit several venues and get detailed quotes to understand the full cost and what’s included and what’s allowed."

Who Traditionally Pays for an Asian Wedding?

The question of who pays for a wedding can vary greatly from culture to culture. Not only that, but we've seen massive changes in recent years.

Anisha explains the situation in the Asian wedding industry, "Traditionally parents of Asian couples pay for the wedding.

"However, we have seen a huge transition over the past few years, where couples are also paying towards their weddings combined with a gift or wedding fund allocated from both parents, as many Asian couples have more of a say on how they would like to plan their wedding and which guests they would like to invite.

"As commonly known, best practice in traditional Asian weddings is to not only invite your closest family and friends but to also invite friends of friends, business colleagues and to extend invitations to those in return of wedding celebrations you have previously attended.

"But after the pandemic we have seen a huge change whereby couples are now more in control of their guest list and extend invitations to their nearest in dearest family and friends.

"Therefore, we have seen they are now inviting less guests to their wedding with an average of 250 - 300 guests but spending more per head and overall a higher budget spend as they are focusing on creating a more intimate and creatively curated wedding theme and allocating bigger budgets to décor, production and catering to create a more unique and personal experience for their guests."

How to Plan an Asian Wedding: Expert Tips

Planning an Asian wedding can be a massive undertaking because of the traditions, cultures, expectations and large guest lists. That's why we asked Gurdev to share his top three tips on throwing a seamless Asian celebration of marriage. Here's what he had to say:

1. Start Early and Keep it Simple

"Start planning well in advance. Get your venue, religious elements and entertainment sorted first. You can then start to work around these and if it helps to get an experienced wedding coordinator, then consider it to help you manage the workload and stress."

2. Embrace Tradition But Be You

"It's important to honour traditional customs but pin-point what’s important to you and your partner. This gives you’re the opportunity to customising aspects of the ceremony, decor, or even blending cultural traditions with modern elements. Communicate clearly with your family and wedding planner to balance tradition with your personal vision."

3. Set a Budget Wisely and Prioritise

"Asian weddings can be elaborate, and costs can add up quick. Set a realistic budget early on and prioritise what matters most. For example, if you value high-quality catering or elaborate decor, allocate more funds there and consider more cost-effective options for other areas. Keep track of all expenses and avoid over-stretching."
