How Much Does a Barn Wedding Venue Cost?
Charlotte Boutwood, the owner and manager of Odo's Barn, shares: "It's hard to generalise, as some barns are very basic and rent out on a dry hire basis for around £3,000, while other barns have everything included.
"So, for us, the price covers everything you'll need from a venue to put on a wedding ceremony and reception, such as tables, chairs, linens, including some lovely extras such as a vintage sofas and fairy lights.
"I think for us what makes Odo's Barn so popular is having the three day hire giving couples time to add personal touches the day before, bringing family and friends and having fun doing this and maybe a rehearsal of walking down the aisle to your music too. We meet up the next day so the couple can collect their things, it just takes the pressure and stress off the wedding day.
"Perhaps ask yourselves, many guests would you like to attend your wedding day and how many extra evening guests will join later? This enables parameters for a couple’s wedding catering costs to be scoped for the couple’s main wedding celebration meal (or the wedding breakfast) and a later evening ‘street food’ style feast.
"Also, the couple should decide if their hearts are set on a weekend celebration, or if they'd be open to a weekday wedding. The trend to get married on a weekday was already growing pre-pandemic and now just as many, if not more, wedding couples are now seeking weekday weddings, as there is greater work place flexibility and understanding and decreased costs."
Why Do Couples Choose to Get Married in Barn Wedding Venues?
In our Hitched National Wedding Survey, a fifth of all surveyed couples had opted to say 'I do' in a barn wedding venue. But what is it about barns that draws couples in?
Simon Steel, Managing Director of Bredenbury Court Barns offers some insight: "Barn wedding venues have a more informal feel and are often closely connected with nature and rural surroundings. The element of informality is increasingly sought by couples as we as a society shift to a more ‘casual approach’ to previously formal occasions.
"With everyone increasingly busy in life, the proximity of barn wedding venues to countryside surroundings appeals to wedding couples seeking out their dream wedding venue.
"Barns are quite often also quite ‘unstyled’ with exposed walls, vaulted ceilings leaving a blank canvas that only needs light touches of decoration to have big effect! The simple layouts also enable everyone to celebrate together rather than be divided into separate rooms and outdoor areas."
On a similar note, Charlotte explains: "Barns are perfect for the very popular rustic and relaxed themed weddings, they put guests at ease and the wooden beams give so much warmth and character - and a great backdrop to the wedding."
What's a Top Tip for Couples Booking a Barn Wedding Venue?
Charlotte's top tip is: "Make sure your bar and your dance floor are in the same area - you don’t want to lose people in different areas because once they settle they are hard to move. Keeping everything under one roof really helps the party vibes."
What Type of Wedding is Best Suited to a Barn Wedding Venue?
Charlotte explains: "The neutral backdrop of the barn lends itself to many styles of weddings. Sage greens and burnt orange tones are very popular right now, and they also work really well if you're planning a more festival style wedding, especially as we have a perfect meadow for glamping.
"Fresh flowers look fantastic, but so do all the gorgeous dried and silk flowers that are so popular now - a big plus if you are looking to be more sustainable."
What Mistakes Can Be Avoided When Booking a Barn Venue?
Understanding the price before booking is a key piece of advice from Charlotte, who shares that: "All venues work and price their venues in a slightly different way, it is important to work out what is and isn’t included and make sure you are aware of any extras that are not included.
"It's very important when working out your overall wedding budget!"
