In the middle of the Hampshire countryside, set amongst 66 acres of gorgeous gardens, sits Tylney Hall. This grade II-listed country house is so impressive that after arriving for our visit via its grand driveway, we spent a good 10 minutes taking photos of the exterior before we’d even stepped inside!
It would be easy to assume that Tylney’s magnificent appearance alone is what makes it a highly sought-after wedding venue and mini-moon spot. But as soon as we set foot through the 17th century doors, staff are on hand to greet us and make us feel instantly welcome, and we quickly realise that it’s the service as much as the setting that makes Tylney Hall so special.

After a quick gawp around the wood-panelled entrance way we’re escorted to our room for the night – the hotel’s newly-refurbished State Suite. The suite has recently undergone a £120,000 makeover, and the hard work and care that’s been taken to ensure it’s modern and comfortable while still in keeping with the character of the building is clear to see.
The suite boasts the best views in the hotel, overlooking the Italian Garden and Boathouse Lake. With tall ceilings, exquisite décor and probably the best bath we’ve ever seen (think free-standing glam with views of the Hampshire countryside while you soak), we very quickly feel at home – if your home was fit for royalty complete with plush furnishings and a rainfall shower, of course!
There’s a total of 112 rooms at Tylney, and while the State Suite is perfect for newlyweds, there’s more than enough options for your wedding guests to choose from too. Spacious and comfortable, many of the oak-paneled bedrooms come with four poster beds and park views overlooking the stunning grounds. There’s even an all-important Nespresso machine, perfect for anyone needing a caffeine hit after some late-night wedding celebrations!

As tempting as it is to stay in our palatial pad, we venture out to take a look at all the wedding and leisure facilities Tylney has to offer.
For wedding couples, there’s an array of options when it comes to hosting your big day. There are four venues licensed for civil ceremonies, and whether you’re looking for an intimate affair with 20 guests or bigger celebrations for 120, there really is something for everyone. From the stunning stone gazebos in the Italian Gardens and the beautiful Baronial Tylney Suite, to the Hampshire Suite with its own private gardens, couples are spoilt for choice with each venue providing the perfect backdrop for your wedding pics.
There’s plenty to keep you busy during your stay, too. The hotel has two swimming pools – one heated outdoor pool set in a gorgeous walled courtyard, and one indoors with ample room for a few lengths, plus saunas and poolside lounges all set for some serious relaxing to take place. There’s also a gym, spa and tennis court – perfect for working off those extra calories from all of the amazing food on offer!

Speaking of which… after a quick dip (and a much-deserved pre-dinner cocktail in the Library Bar), it was time to check out the hotel’s restaurant. The Oak Room – recently ranked the Best Restaurant in Hampshire at Bookatable’s Diner Awards 2018 – is one of the best fine dining restaurants in the area, and as soon as our first dish lands in front of us it’s clear to see why.
The team pride themselves on carefully combining seasonal specialties and signature dishes, all complemented with a carefully chosen wine list. After some of the best scallops we’ve ever tried, a delicious chicken dish and blackberry soufflé for dessert (calorie-free of course, on account of the earlier swim…), it’s time to roll ourselves to bed.
Although Tylney is undoubtedly a traditional wedding venue with bags of regal charm, the State Suite brings a whole new level of modern comfort and luxury, which – combined with their second-to-none service – really does make Tylney Hall a wedding venue to beat.
