8. Thornbury Castle, Bristol
Castle wedding venues make the most exceptional mini moon getaways. Why go all out for your wedding and stop there? Thornbury Castle offers couples a unique and seriously romantic mini moon holiday and the best bit? It’s located in Bristol, one of the UK’s most vibrant and fun-packed cities.
You can spend a few nights locked away in a castle turret and then venture out and explore what Bristol has to offer. Thornbury Castle Hotel itself dates back to the 1500s and is steeped in history and charm. They even have suites named after Henry VIII and some of his wives!
Reviewers are crazy about this place with one stating, “There are not many places I would give 10/5 stars, but this one is it. It’s above and beyond the best place I’ve ever stayed in. It’s absolutely phenomenal”. Another said this mini moon hotel was “done to the highest luxury standard while maintaining a historic feel.” People also love the food here.

9. Beach Hut Suites, West Sussex
If you and your partner love to be by the coast, Beach Hut Suites is the perfect place for you to mini moon in the UK. Located a stone’s throw from Felpham Beach in West Sussex, Beach Hut Suites blend traditional seaside hospitality with luxury design and finish – it’s a match made in heaven if you ask us.
The newly renovated beach huts boast the most idyllic views of the south coast and have balconies for you and your love to sit on and watch the waves. Dinner can be arranged on your balcony with a view, or at the hotel’s very own restaurant and there’s a vineyard nearby for some delightful wine tasting.
Pets and children are welcome at Beach Hut Suites and they have specific accommodation arrangements for anyone traveling with children or their pet pooch. Reviewers love the vibe here. Many of them state that they felt welcomed as soon as they arrived and that the staff were incredibly accommodating. They also loved the sea views.
- Prices: From £161 per night.
10. The Eastbury Hotel & Spa, Dorset
Set within its own award-winning walled gardens, Georgian country house hotel The Eastbury is ideal for a tranquil post-wedding getaway. It was first designed as a gentleman’s residence in the 18th century, so every room has its own charm, but for a mini moon we’d suggest the Victorian Potting Shed Garden suites, with en-suite wet rooms and their own private terraces.
The Eastbury is also remarkably dog-friendly, so if you want to travel on your UK honeymoon with a four-legged friend in tow, you’d be hard pressed to find a warmer welcome for them.
- Prices: From £290 per night.
11. No.42 by GuestHouse Margate, Kent
It takes GuestHouse Hotels all of five minutes to become the hottest pad in every location it chooses to open up in, but the Margate outpost takes some beating.
This stylish 21-bedroom hotel overlooks the promenade, with sea views that need to be seen to be believed. Book a room with a balcony for the very best seafront vistas, fling open the French doors and soak up the sound of the crashing waves as you open a bottle of celebratory fizz. Or head up to the beautiful rooftop bar for a drink instead.
Channelling just-washed-up shoreline chic, the décor is mostly white with wooden floors, billowing curtains and sink-into-me beds. You’ll also find standalone baths and/or lovely showers in the bathroom; both of which will easily accommodate two.
Hitched contributor Danielle Wilkins experienced this luxury mini moon destination first hand and loved every minute: "The whole place has a relaxed, unhurried vibe and the staff are renowned for their ‘nothing is too much trouble’ attitude – but I highly recommend taking the chill-out vibe even further with a couple’s treatment downstairs in the Field Trip spa.
"It really doesn’t get more romantic than The Copper Cove ritual which includes a private magnesium-rich salt bath for two (complete with English fizz, of course) and self-applied body scrub, followed by a side-by-side back, neck and shoulder massage. It’s followed up with either a foot massage or mini facial and scalp massage.
"Then, after working up an appetite with a day of wandering, relaxing, swimming and sunbathing, dine at the hotel’s Pearly Cow restaurant for the freshest oysters and catch of the day money can buy. Order the hotel's signature lobster roll with a side of fries – and thank us later!"
- Prices: From £158 per night.
12. The Fish Hotel, Cotswolds
The Fish Hotel’s hideaway huts are Insta-famous for a reason – small yet perfectly formed for two, they have all of the amenities you could dream of, including a private bath for you to share on the deck. Couples matching bath tubs overlooking the gardens are what you can expect at this seriously romantic mini moon hotel.
If you have a little more budget to play with, you could also consider the Boaty McBoatface cabin (no, seriously), which includes use of a paddle boat which you can use to navigate your own private lake, or the seriously dreamy and slightly more contemporary treehouses: think Nespresso machines, underfloor heating and a very well-stocked minibar.
- Prices: From £144 per night.
13. The Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall
An adults-only hotel is preferable to many when it comes to a mini moon, and The Scarlet is often cited as one of the best in the country. It also upholds itself to the highest eco-friendly credentials, so if that’s a priority for you both, this seaside spot should shoot straight to the top of your list.
If you can bear to drag yourselves away from your room (which is guaranteed to have a seriously spectacular coastal view), you can feast on locally sourced seafood in the restaurant, indulge in a spot of pampering in the couple’s suite at the Ayurvedic spa or unwind in the clifftop hot tub. Bliss.
Reviewers can't get enough of the view with one writing: "It's perfect for a relaxing break with the best views you can imagine. From every part of the hotel you can see the coast."
- Prices: From £365 per night.
14. Dittisham Hideaway, Devon
Offering luxurious mini moon accommodation in the UK’s glorious Devonshire countryside is Dittisham Hideaway, a collection of unique treehouses and shepherds huts. If a five-star mini moon hotel isn’t quite your vibe and you and your partner prefer a more unusual experience, Dittisham Hideaway is the perfect spot for you.
As well as the charming treehouses and shepherds huts, the venue also plays host to a luxuriously restored American Airstream 1234 Caravan which makes a perfect mini moon sanctuary with a difference for romantic couples.
Some of the accommodation options are suitable for couples with children making it a great choice if you’re planning to book a familymoon. Reviewers particularly loved the ‘top notch’ welcome pack and the tranquillity of the location.
- Prices: From £175 per night (dependent on accommodation type).
15. The Goring Hotel, London
Who says a mini moon can’t be a local city break? Certainly not us – and our capital is full of hotels that will fit the bill. The Duchess of Cambridge spent the night before her wedding at The Goring, so if you’re planning a big day fit for royalty, perhaps you’d like to follow in her footsteps for the afterparty?
It goes without saying that the service is impeccable, but you’ll feel like royalty even when you’re alone in your suite. And when you’re ready to venture out, London’s fanciest corners, including Belgravia, Mayfair and Knightsbridge, are right on your doorstep.
- Prices: From £546 per night.
16. The Hoxton, London
For a more relaxed London experience, we’d suggest checking out The Hoxton – this hip boutique chain has three outposts in the city, including in Southwark and Holborn, but it’s the original, in the east end of Shoreditch, which really has our heart.
Book one of the concept rooms (each individually designed by a local artist, and totally unique from the others) or spread out in a ‘Roomy’ – the Hoxton’s equivalent of a suite. There are tons of cool shops and museums in the vicinity to fill your days with, and it’s also a foodie paradise, with an array of amazing dining and bar options both in the building and the surrounding area.
- Prices: From £279 per night.
17. Number 38 Clifton, Bristol
Bristol is a buzzy, energetic place with access to great nightlife and a thriving food scene, but also quieter, more rural spots where you can get back in touch with nature. Those seeking the best of both worlds would be well placed to arrange a mini moon at Number 38 Clifton – in our books, the prettiest hotel in the city.
There are 10 bedrooms in the townhouse, each of which are kitted out with Roberts radios, REN toiletries and soft, snuggly waffle robes, and the breakfast menu is second to none.
A particularly great mini moon hotel for tall couples, one reviewer commented saying: "The rooms are lush, the lounge is cosy and the staff are delightful! We stayed in room 7 and couldn't have asked for more, I'm 6ft 4 and easily fit in the bed, bath and shower which is truly a miracle."
- Prices: From £154 per night.
18. Swinton Estate, Yorkshire
Swinton Estate proudly flies its flag as the best rated hotel in Yorkshire, and it needs just the merest glimpse at the imposing building, with its fairy tale turrets and climbing ivy, to see why. The inside is an equally grand affair, with four-poster beds, open fireplaces and a restaurant with a gold-leaf ceiling.
There’s a cookery school, country club and spa and plenty of outdoor pursuits at your fingertips (everything from mountain biking to falconry and fishing). In fact, if you really want to commit to the fresh air lifestyle, check out the estate’s meadow yurts, a cool alternative to the palatial grounds of the main hotel.
- Prices: From £243 per night.
19. Hudnall’s Hideout, Gloucestershire
When glamping looks this good, it’s definitely mini moon-worthy. Hudnall’s Hideout is an adults-only treehouse getaway that’s been designed in partnership with Made.com – and the interiors are as on point as you’d expect.
Berber rugs and velvet sofas aside, it’s also tucked away in the most stunning, secluded location – you really will feel like it’s just the two of you in your own bubble. The only downside? Only one couple can stay at a time, so it gets booked up quickly – give yourself plenty of notice to arrange your visit.
- Prices: From £400 based on a three-night stay.
20. Hogarths Stone Manor, Solihull
Couples looking for a combination of quaint and luxury will love what Hogarths Stone Manor has to offer. Perfect for a romantic UK mini moon, the exquisite hotel offers newlyweds a blissful retreat to unwind and enjoy the first few moments of married life. Each bedroom is uniquely decorated with a stylish finish and the food at Hogarths is something worth writing home about, too.
The hotel offers a quintessentially British afternoon tea and even has a number of treatment rooms to heighten your relaxation. There is 24 hour room service and every room offers a breath-taking view of the rolling countryside that surrounds you. Reviewers praise the outstanding service they received and love how beautiful the gardens are.
- Prices: From £136 per night.
21. The Balmoral, Edinburgh
A riot of ‘Hebridean blues, heather hues and classic Scottish art’, The Balmoral boasts stunning views of Edinburgh Castle, a Michelin-starred restaurant and a selection of 500 malts of whisky. In short, it’s a flawless example of what a luxurious Scottish mini moon should look like.
For a one-of-a-kind souvenir of your stay that you’ll both treasure forever, take advantage of Marcas Mac an Tuairneir, the Gaelic poet in residence, who can be booked to create a bespoke ode to commemorate any special occasion.
- Prices: From £295 per night.
22. The Reading Rooms, Kent
Opened in 2009 to rave reviews, The Reading Rooms has sustained its cult reputation as another of Margate’s hottest properties – and each of the rooms in this Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse occupies an entire floor, so get ready to spread out.
Once you’ve soaked up the splendour of the exposed wood beams, antique chandeliers, hand-carved beds and cast-iron roll top bath, the seaside is five minutes from your front door. We can almost hear the waves crashing from here.
- Prices: From £160 per night.
23. Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, Oxfordshire
Mini moons should always be built around experiences you’ll remember for the rest of your lives together – and a stay at Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir is certainly one of those.
It goes without saying that everything from the gardens to the sprawling suites are thoughtfully considered and tastefully appointed, but unsurprisingly, the real star of the show is the food.
Book a seven-course tasting menu in the two Michelin starred restaurant and you’re guaranteed one of the best dining experiences of your marriage. And in this case, there’s no such thing as to peaking too soon.
- Prices: From £930 per night.
24. South Lodge, West Sussex
South Lodge is a wedding venue and romantic hotel in West Sussex. This British honeymoon hotspot is nestled within the scenic Sussex Downs and has grounds of its own to match its beautiful surroundings.
It’s award-winning dining and state-of-the-art spa are just some of the luxurious amenities you’ll find here – and did we mention that some of the rooms even come with their own hot tub balcony? If that’s not romantic enough for you, we give up!
As well as being an incredible mini moon hotel, South Lodge also offers unique spa break experiences for couples who want to be pampered as well as relax on their first marital getaway. Reviewers refer to South Lodge as a “break from reality” and highly recommend a stay here.

Each bedroom is uniquely decorated with elaborate, eccentric interiors and its famed standalone bath tubs.
The food is exceptional and if Oxfordshire is a little far for you to travel, there’s also a Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield! Proving it makes the perfect anniversary hotel too, one reviewer said: “This place is simply stunning! I booked a suite for me and my partner to celebrate our anniversary. It’s the most amazing hotel we’ve ever stayed in.”
- Prices: From £168 per night.

But for the ultimate in cosy rural wonder, our money is on the multi-award-winning Pig near Bath, tucked away in the Mendip Hills, and equipped with wide, luxurious beds and freestanding baths aplenty.

- Prices: From £225 per night.
28. At The Chapel, Somerset
Going to The Chapel, and we’ve – er – just got ma-a-arried… As the name indicates, this romantic Grade II-listed residence in Bruton was once a 17th century chapel. Fast forward to present day and it’s a beautiful boutique mini moon destination that really makes the most of its original features (hello, high ceilings and elegant arched windows).
Outside of the rooms, after you’ve had your fill of that wonderfully deep marble bathtub, there’s a restaurant, bakery and wine store on site to enjoy. In fact, every reservation includes a breakfast of freshly baked croissants as standard.
- Prices: From £125 per night.
29. Artist’s Residence, London
When you say Artist’s Residence, most people think Brighton (and if you’re headed in that direction, definitely check that property out). However, what you might not know is there’s also an AR bolthole in the centre of the capital, in Pimlico, and it’s every inch as opulent and worthy of your mini moon fund.
The guest list is kept small, with only 10 bedrooms total, each decked out in the group’s trademark shabby-chic décor. Take a leisurely soak in the clawfoot tub and enjoy brunch at the much-loved Cambridge Street Kitchen, which sits underneath, before heading out to explore. Reviewers love the central location of this classic mini moon hotel.
- Prices: From £295 per night.
30. Cabü By The Sea, Kent
Cabü’s luxe accommodation, built on a patch of peaceful private grassland by the English Channel, ranges from an intimate writer’s studio to a dog-friendly beach hut, all beautifully decorated, and almost all designed specifically with stays for two in mind.
They’re all centred around the Cabü House general store, where you can pick up groceries or even arrange your own personal picnic. Oh, and that outdoor pool is heated, so you can take a dip all year round.
- Prices: From £151 per night.
31. Killiehuntly Farmhouse, Scottish Highlands
Killiehuntly is a gorgeous guesthouse which offers both hotel rooms and self-catering cottages, so you can shape your stay to fit the way you like to holiday. Rest safe in the knowledge that whichever option you pick, it’ll be truly exquisite.
The minimal Nordic décor sets the scene for total relaxation, but you can up the adrenaline if you like – activities on offer include pony picnics, 4x4 tours and wild swimming. And as it’s part of a working farm in Cairngorm National Park, it’s worth making a reservation for the freshly-sourced food alone.
- Prices: From £240 per night.
32. The Ned, London

- Prices: From £655 per night.
34. The Pigsty, Hampshire
Not the first piggy hotel in our roundup (although they bear no relation), Winchester’s quirky and contemporary Pigsty is the mini moon cabin of dreams. Since it opened in 2018, The Pigsty cabin on Vale Farm has been a hidden gem in seriously high demand – and for good reason.
A stay in this remote cabin represents quality time at its finest, whether you spend your stay soaking in the freestanding tub, playing board games and drinking wine on the exclusive patio, or making the most of your proximity to town’s myriad tourist attractions. It’s also remarkably budget-friendly when compared with many of the higher-end hotels.
Reviewers love how secluded the location is with one saying: "My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary and it was beyond perfect. The location is amazing, totally secluded on a private farm so we didn't see anyone apart from some rabbits, deer and pheasants."
- Prices:

The Isle of Skye was recently voted the fourth best island in the world by the National Geographic so if you’re looking for an amazing island getaway that’s easily accessible, this could be perfect. Skye has beaches that look straight out the Caribbean, fantastic restaurants, distilleries and breweries, incredible walking routes and – on the right night – you might even be able to catch the Northern Lights.
- Prices: From £1,550 based on a three-night stay.
38. Babington House, Somerset
Spending a night or two in the countryside splendour of Babington House is a dream neither of you will want to wake up from. Set in 18 acres of stunning Somerset scenery, it combines traditional touches with Soho House’s signature laid back cool, with amenities including a Cowshed spa, tennis courts, cricket pitches and even a private screening room.
Those who love the Soho House style but want something a bit more London-adjacent could also try Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire, but unlike Babington, you will need to be a member to make a booking (maybe something to add to the wedding gift list?).
- Prices: From £285 per night.
What is a Mini Moon?
A mini moon is effectively a smaller and usually less expensive version of a honeymoon. A mini moon tends to involve staying in the UK or Europe and getting away for a few days or just a weekend as opposed to flying somewhere afar and being away for more than a week.
Most people choose to mini moon in the UK, but there are also a lot of European cities which are quick to fly to that would work for a mini moon. Some couples will have just a mini moon, and others will go on a mini moon after the wedding, and then save and go on a larger honeymoon at a later date.
