Is St Lucia a Good Honeymoon Destination?

Here at Hitched we are massive fans of St Lucia as a honeymoon destination. Idyllic beaches, lush rainforests, dramatic mountain views: what’s not to love?

We put the question to the experts at Turquoise, and this is what Lizzie Alleyne, Caribbean Product Manager, had to say: “Is St Lucia a good choice for a honeymoon? Absolutely! St Lucia has been voted the World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination by the World Travel Awards 15 times now. It is an incredible romantic island with gorgeous natural beauty, so it’s well worth splurging for a room with a view!”

What to Do on a Honeymoon in St Lucia

Whether you’re looking forward to kicking back on a beach, cocktail in hand as you start life as newlyweds, or prefer to get active and explore what the island has to offer, St Lucia has plenty to keep you busy on your honeymoon.

Turquoise’ Caribbean expert, Lizzie Alleyne, agrees there’s so much to do on a honeymoon in St Lucia: “My top choices include searching for hidden waterfalls, enjoying private beach dinners and relaxing on a sunset cruise (ideally around the Pitons as they are stunning!), but honestly, most tours are happy to accommodate special requests for honeymooners. More activity-driven couples can snorkel the vibrant marine life or have a go at zip-lining through the rainforest.”

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Take to the azure waters and sail along the glorious St Lucia coastline for your chance to spot pods of playful dolphins and majestic Humpback Whales. Led by local guides it’s an incredible opportunity to make the most unforgettable honeymoon memories. Even if you’re not lucky enough to spot the native wildlife, you still get to take in the breathtaking view of the island with a rum punch in hand. Cheers to that!

Search for Hidden Waterfalls

Head deep into St Lucia’s lush rainforests to discover some of the stunningly beautiful waterfalls the island is renowned for. Toraille waterfall is among the most popular sights on the island and well worth the trek for that refreshing dip at the end.

Snorkel Coral Reefs

St Lucia snorkelling

The crystal-clear waters around the island are a snorkeler’s paradise. The vibrant coral reef is bursting with life, including colourful Angelfish, Parrotfish and Blue Tang. If you’re lucky you might even spot a Hawksbill turtle in the water. Hire or borrow snorkelling gear from your hotel or, if you fancy heading out into deeper water, book a day with one of St Lucia’s scuba diving companies for an exciting underwater experience.

Hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail

St Lucia puts on a dazzling display of natural beauty and there’s no better place to really immerse yourself in the wonders of the island than hiking the Tet Paul Nature Trail. Join one of the guided tours on this moderate hike, for majestic views of the Pitons as well as the distant islands of Martinique and St Vincent.

Soufriere Volcano Sulphur Springs

Did you know St Lucia is home to the world’s only ‘drive-in volcano’? The Sulphur Springs are an awe-inspiring sight, with numerous pools of boiling mud spewing clouds of sulphur gas into the air on this active geothermal sight. While the volcano itself is dormant, the otherworldly landscape is absolutely worth exploring. Don’t miss your chance to relax in the mud baths and soak up their detoxifying benefits.

When To Go To St Lucia on Honeymoon?

Marigot Bay Beach

St Lucia has warm year-round temperatures, with average highs raging from 28°C to 32°C – although expect those temperatures to be significantly cooler up in the island’s mountains. The best time of year to visit St Lucia is between February and May, to avoid the rainy season and hurricanes.

The rainy season runs from June to January, although this is typically made up of short downpours rather than endless torrential rain. Hurricane season is June to November, with the risk of a hurricane hitting the island at its highest during the month of September. Thankfully, St Lucia has a very low risk of hurricanes, although tropical storms are slightly more common.
