Jill Scott and partner Shelly Unitt are one of the many Lioness couples who have found themselves in the spotlight this year following the Lioness’ incredible victory at the women’s Euros in August. 

As the buzz of summer football drew to an end, Jill Scott remained on our screens this winter - but not in the sporty capacity we’re used to. 

It would be a crime to not have had an England Lionesses in I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here this year, and it was footballer Jill Scott who became of the brave contestants to take part this year.

Jill entertained us with her bubbly personality and funny one-liners for three weeks, up until was crowned Queen of the Jungle on Sunday night's final. After getting the majority of more than 12 million votes, Jill was a strong contender to win right from the off, and waiting at the end of the bridge for her after she was crowned was her partner Shelly Unitt.

Who is Jill Scott?

Jill Scott MBE is a former professional football player who formed part of the famous women’s Euro 2022 team who rose to victory after a string of wins in the competition this August. She began her career at Sunderland in 2004 before moving to Everton in 2006.

After spending seven years at the club, she was signed to Manchester City in 2014 where, aside from two loan stints at Everton and Aston Villa, she remained until retirement. Throughout her career, footballer Jill Scott has also represented Great Britain twice in the Olympics (2012 and 2021) and was part of the famous Lionesses team who won the women’s Euros in 2022.

To recognise her incredible services to women’s football, Jill Scott was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 2020 New Year Honours list.

Following an immense sporting career representing country and country, Jill Scott announced her retirement from professional football in August 2022, with 161 England captain appearances and 21 country goals under her belt.

During her time in this year's I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here, Jill has proved extremely popular with her other celebrity campmates. She's lead Lioness warmups, been a camp mole alongside Matt Hancock and Sean Walsh and kept spirits high with her funny dance moves. 

Jill was crowned Queen of the Jungle on Sunday 27th November with Owen Warner being her runner up. Her fellow campmates were overwhelmed with joy at Jill winning the show - she has been both a fan-favourite and extremely popular with the other celebrities since the day she entered camp and was a bookies' favourite to take the crown from day one.

Who is Jill Scott's Partner Shelly Unitt?

Jill Scott’s fiancé Shelly Unitt has also found herself in the spotlight following her partner’s success - but that’s not all she’s known for!

Shelly Unitt is also known for being the sister of former England player Rachel Unitt, a left-back who has, similarly to Jill, represented a number of top teams in the Women’s Championship. Speaking about life in the spotlight, Shelly shared her thoughts on the positive response her and Jill experienced after the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

In an interview with The Chronicle, she said: “Everyone was recognising her (Jill), and she had a lot of time for everyone. They were telling her she’d played well, that everyone was getting together in their family homes and making time to watch these games.”

During her fiancé's stint in camp, Shelly sent an emotional letter to Jill which was read out in camp after Jill, Owen and Scarlett had won everyone's letters from home during a balancing task. The letter read: "Hi Jill it’s Shelly, I love you and miss you so much. There isn’t a minute that goes by where you’re not on my mind.

"I love you so much and now the rest of the world does too. This is because you’re such a great person with your positive, kind and encouraging self. I’ll have a flat white waiting for you, love your biggest fans, Shelly, Evie and Hattie.”

Jill was emotional as the letter was read out and said she was glad her partner mentioned a flat white, because that's exactly the thing she'd been missing. No you're crying!

How Long Have Jill Scott and Shelly Unitt Been Together?

It’s not known the exact date that Jill Scott and Shelly Unitt cemented their relationship, however Shelly shared a post on 17th October 2021 with the hashtag #4years, so it’s estimated that the couple have been together for around five years. She penned, “It went too fast…but thanks for the best weekend! #4years #spoilt #loveyou.” 

As well as being engaged, the pair own a coffee shop in Northenden together. It’s called BOXX2BOXX, named famously after Jill’s infamous position as a box-to-box midfielder. Open since April 2021, coffee seems to play a huge role in their relationship and even featured in their engagement announcement. 

When Did Jill Scott Get Engaged to Her Partner? 

Jill Scott and partner Shelly Unitt announced their engagement in March 2020. Sharing the news with her Instagram following on 17th March, Jill wrote, “The best coffee so far 💍❤️ @shellyunitt”, whilst Shelly shared the same image of her stunning celebrity engagement ring a day later with the caption, “Yes, yes yes!! 💍🍾🥂”.

Are Jill Scott and Partner Shelly Unitt Married?

Footballer Jill and partner Shelly have kept their wedding plans very much to themselves and seemingly prefer to plan in private - we totally get it! Though we’re super keen for some wedding bells soon, we love the fact that they’re keeping their wedding planning journey between the two of them.

Whether it's a ceremony at a sporty wedding venue or an intimate destination wedding - we can't wait to see it!

Do Jill Scott and Partner Shelly Unitt Have Children?

Shelly has two teenage daughters, Evie and Hattie, from a previous relationship. The girls live with Jill and Shelly and missed Jill while she was in the jungle. In an interview with The Sun before Jill was crowned Jungle Queen, Shelly said, "They are missing her bouncing around. They are so proud of Jill and really excited." 

Speaking of her trip to support partner Jill in Australia, she said, "I didn't want to leave them at first, but they said 'go, go' - it is very different from seeing her playing football obviously because it is just for one hour but we are all rooting for her.”

Jill became increasingly popular with fans as the show ran its course, and we're excited to see where her career takes her following her win. In the interview, Jill's partner Shelly stressed how important charity work is to the couple, explaining, "When Jill is in the shop, she likes to muck in and make the drinks. We are selling hoodies with 'Vote Jill' and profits will go to our chosen charity."

In a television interview with Lorraine, Shelly mentioned charity work again, explaining that her fiancé likes to help people and will likely spend next year doing a lot of charity work, experiencing different things and having a year out.
