Have Molly-Mae & Tommy Fury Broken Up? Everything We Know So Far
The Love Island couple announced their split after five years of being together, but why did Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury break up? Here's everything you need to know...
When it comes to the likelihood of Love Island couples staying together, Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury were one couple we never doubted. The couple met on Love Island in 2019 and went on to get engaged and parent their only daughter, Bambi.
The couple are known to be one of Love Island's most popular pairings, with a combined following of more than 12.5 million on Instagram alone. Since their season aired, they have both been busy building their empires.
Molly-Mae has had a number of business successes including her own brand, Filter by Molly-Mae, a collaboration deal with Starbucks, and had a successful season as the creative director of fashion house Pretty Little Thing.
Tommy has also seen success come his way following his stint on Love Island. The brother of famous boxer Tyson Fury has paved his own way in the boxing world, with a total of nine fights (and nine wins!) under his belt.
Now, the couple have shocked fans by announcing their break-up, so here are all the details on what we know about their sudden split.
Have Molly-Mae & Tommy Fury Broken Up? Everything We Know So Far
Sadly, Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury have broken up. On the 14th of August, Molly-Mae released a shocking update to her Instagram story, sharing with her fans:
"Never in a million years did I think I'd ever have to write this. After five years of being together I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way. I am extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy's relationship has come to an end.
"I will forever be grateful for the most important thing to me now and always, my beautiful daughter. Without us there would be no her, she will always be my priority.
"I want to thank you all for the love you have shown us over the last five years. You have all been a part of our journey and I feel it's right to share this with you all."
Tommy took to his Instagram account soon after to share the sad news of their split with his followers. Here's what the boxer had to say:
"I am heartbroken to share that Molly & I have decided to end our relationship.
"The past 5 years have led to us having our beautiful baby girl, Bambi & I will be forever thankful to Molly for making me a dad. Bambi is our priority.
"Please respect our privacy, and our families privacy, as we navigate our way through this difficult time."
The break-up comes as a surprise to many, but this isn't the first time we're hearing of trouble in paradise for the beloved celebrity couple. Back in May, the Daily Mail reported that the influencer sparked concern among fans after she failed to post a tribute to Tommy on this birthday.
Molly has also been very candid with her fans through her YouTube channel, documenting the highs and lows of motherhood for her viewers. The influencer has also shared many highlights of her relationship with Tommy through her Instagram account, although she has also taken several breaks from social media in the past.
The exact reasons for why the pair have split haven't been revealed, but we wish them both the best going forward.
Molly-Mae & Tommy Fury's Engagement: Here's Everything We Know
Since becoming official in the Love Island villa, Molly-Mae and Tommy reached a number of relationship milestones, including buying a home together and having a child, so it came as no surprise when Tommy decided to get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend of four years.
Sharing the news to their 12.7million followers combined, the couple posted a video of the sweet proposal on 23rd July with the caption, "Forever. 23/07/23💍😭"
The video, which had RuthAnne's song The Vow playing over it, showed Molly-Mae walking down the stairs wearing a white wedding jumpsuit and beachy half up half down hairstyle. It then cuts to Tommy, standing in a suit on the side of a cliff, holding their daughter Bambi, surrounded by flowers and a scenic view.
Tommy then proceeds to pass Bambi to Molly-Mae, and gets down on one knee to propose to the fashion influencer with a view of the sea and cliffs behind them.
Fans and fellow celebs rushed to congratulate the pair on their exciting news, including recently married Stacey Solomon, and bride-to-be Georgia Kousoulou.
How Did Tommy Fury Propose to Molly-Mae?
After their engagement announcement, Molly-Mae opened up about how her boxer boyfriend planned the elaborate gesture, and why she was so surprised.
She shared a picture of the couple holding hands and smiling to her Instagram stories, explaining how Tommy had planned the proposal by tricking her into thinking they had a brand event to go to. She wrote, "[This was] just before we were leaving for a 'brand event' we'd both been invited to...fake invites, fake emails, notes in the hotel room from the brand, everyone playing along so unbelievably well...
"I've never known a surprise to be pulled off like this. I was COMPLETELY and utterly fooled."
Explaining the moment she realised something special was about to happen, Molly-Mae wrote, "It was only when we pulled up to the 'event' and Tommy jumped out of the car and ran off and I was handed a letter that I realised all was not what it seemed."
Resharing the video of the proposal, she added, "I walked down a very steep hill to find these two waiting for me... AND @thisisruthanne singing my favourite song. He couldn't have made the moment any more perfect. Flying my glam team over, my videographers, my favourite singer... I just can't get over it."
Molly-Mae then shared a sweet snap of her holding her daughter Bambi whilst getting ready for the 'event' that her and Tommy were off to. She captioned it, "Getting ready with my perfect girl who we said goodbye to for the evening...little did I know she was on her way to meet us there."
How Did Molly-Mae & Tommy Fury Meet?
Molly-Mae and Tommy met on series 5 of Love Island in 2019, and, although they are one of the show's biggest success stories, neither one of them were an original islander. Tommy was the first bombshell to enter the villa in his series, and initially had his sights set on Lucie Donlan, who is now engaged to series 6 contestant, Luke.
Molly-Mae entered on day four of the 2019 series and instantly turned Tommy's head. Though they ended the series as boyfriend and girlfriend, and very much in love, the start of their romance had its fair share of drama.
While Tommy tried to decide between Molly-Mae and Lucie, Molly-Mae had her own decisions to make, having taken an interest in Anton Danyluk and Danny Williams, as well as the famous boxer.
A few days later, Tommy and Molly-Mae decided they only had eyes for each other, but the drama soon arose once again when Maura Higgins entered the villa. Tommy's head was initially turned by the Irish model, but after just 24 hours he was all in on Molly-Mae.
For the remainder of the series, fans watched as their relationship went from strength to strength. They survived Casa Amor week with flying colours - who could ever forget the emotional moment Tommy stood waiting for Molly-Mae to return with Elly Belly in his hands!?
The couple became official in the villa, too, when Tommy asked Molly-Mae to be his girlfriend. He planned a really sweet TV moment with the help of villa bestie and dancer Curtis Pritchard.
Despite being (arguably) the most successful couple to have come from the show in its history, Tommy and Molly-Mae didn't win their series of Love Island. The £50,000 cash prize was won by Geordie Amber Gill and her partner, Greg O'Shea, a rugby player from Ireland, but the pair split just five weeks after winning.
