A Colourful Style Shoot Celebrating Stylish City Weddings

A group of talented wedding suppliers came together to celebrate the vibrancy of city weddings, and *this* is the result...

We love a styled shoot here at Hitched, particularly when it has such a strong vision and story behind it.

Styled shoots are so useful for couples who are planning a wedding, as they provide dreamy wedding inspiration for wedding themes, colour schemes and trends that couples may want to recreate themselves, and the one we're about to show you does just that - and a little more...

We're talking confetti, bright colours, vibrant decor and...pizza - what more could you possibly want on your wedding mood board?

A Colourful Style Shoot Celebrating Stylish City Weddings

We caught up with events and wedding planner Akilah, founder of With Akilah & Co, to discuss the styled shoot that she, along with a team of brilliant suppliers, brought to life.

"The inspiration for our styled shoot was drawn from the vibrant and diverse spirit of South London," she explains, "South London is a place where cultures and traditions meet, creating the most unique of experiences."

Picking the Perfect Venue

Choosing a wedding venue is one of the most important decisions you can make during the wedding planning journey, mainly because it sets the tone for your wedding style, theme and vibe, as well as practical elements such as your capacity.

Explaining the impact of choosing their styled shoot venue, Akilah says, "Our choice of wedding venue,  AMP Studios, a Maverick Projects venue, was pivotal to shaping our overall vision. The venue is a blank canvas that allowed us as passionate wedding suppliers to bring it to life.

"As a wedding planner, I saw the potential to inject bold and captivating colours into the space, transforming it into an inspiring setting for couples to tie the knot."

Celebrating South London

South London is one of the city's most bustling and diverse areas, and the team wanted the styled shoot to reflect this.

Detailing how the idea came about, Akilah told us, "I wanted the styled shoot to reflect the vibrant south London wedding community, so I brought together a close-knit group of dedicated south London wedding professionals and friends.

"Each of them contributed their unique and artistic vision and together we crafted an inspiring and visually stunning showcase."

And it's not just south Londoners who can benefit from the messaging behind this shoot. It's been curated to inspire all city-loving couples who dream of tying the knot in the centre of the action.

Adding to this, Akilah explains, "We wanted to inspire city-loving couples who have an obsession with mixing vibrant colours with simplicity to create a fun overall look."

City weddings are timelessly stylish, and this shoot proves it.

Effortlessly Cool Styling

Explaining the type of couple who can take inspiration from this shoot, Akilah says, "The couple this shoot works for have a vision which involves laidback and cool dry-hire venues that offer the flexibility for personalisation, and allows them to create a wedding aesthetic that is a true reflection of their unique personalities.

"The theme here is all about using bright colours in an understated way, whilst keepings chic and playful at the same time. We wanted to explore and experiment with a palette of colours in a way that screamed elegance, without it feeling overwhelming or too much."

The team chose to embrace vibrant colours, but kept things minimal when it came to patterns and prints. Because of this, the contrasting colours married perfectly together, and the contrast didn't feel jarring or overwhelming to look at - quite the opposite, in fact.

For some couples, the idea of contrasting blue, pink, yellow and orange may feel intimidating, but the way it's been executed by this talented team showcases just how stylish and simple it can really look.

The Importance of Photography

You don't need us to tell you how significant choosing the perfect wedding photographer is - they are one of the most important vendors you'll work with throughout your journey - and the same goes for wedding styled shoots.

"A pivotal moment came when the talented Joséphine Elvis enthusiastically agreed to capture the shoot," explains Akilah, "Her expertise lies in capturing candid and genuine moments, as well as highlighting the intricate details that make everything beautiful.

"Her presence added an extra layer of magic to this project as she ensured the shoot would not only showcase the creative talents of the community, but also capture the raw, authentic moments that make weddings truly special."

And we couldn't agree more. To say we're obsessed with the shots that Josephine captured would be a huge understatement.

She has struck the perfect balance of capturing the fun moments whilst keeping things equally candid and natural, and also shows a real range in photography style, contrasting bright natural shots with ones that celebrate movement and emotion in a more editorial way.
