Good Evening Everyone
As most of you know my name is Brandon and I am the groom's best man and brother. Despite me shaking, and sometimes mumbling, I swear I am not drunk but I can't say the same for Ryan or his friends after the bus ride here. I've been really looking forward to this day and I just wanted to thank Ryan for giving me the pleasure of getting up and making a complete fool of myself in front of so many people that know me or don't know me but will.
It is a real honor to be here today celebrating this special day between my brother, Ryan, and his new bride, Erin.
First, let me start by saying I thought that I was the luckiest man in the world, being single, when I saw the bridesmaids and then Erin. Then I came to my senses after the wedding and learned a couple of new things. 4 out of the 5 bridesmaids were now family and the 5th was married. Man what a bummer. But what I can say that Erin looks absolutely gorgeous today and it is real pleasure to welcome her into our family.
As I began to think about Ryan and what he means to me in my life, I realized that he really does mean a lot to me. So many of my memories are of when we were just boys of him calling me "gibone," punching me in my shoulder and harassing me, but memories about the real Ryan that I have become to know and respect with the utmost admiration.
Looking back at myself I was always the quiet, shy, thinking type. I am the computer nerd, momma's boy, and the one that always watched everyone else have the fun.
Ryan, however, was always the hands on person, always working, either with Harold building something or tinkering with things to get them to work or break. Constantly on the go with the scout troop or with jobs. Being myself, however, I was always watching him and I usually found myself eventually following in his foot steps including boy scouts and becoming an EMT.
But the one thing that I have to say with utmost confidence is that Ryan was always there for me, for guidance, to help me, even giving me a hard time, but was always there for me. And I have to say that I really appreciate to know that he always was. Because of that I am proud to be able to call him my brother. I have learned to be a better person because of him. I am not so much the person who sits back and watches everyone else. I have become far more sociable person and enjoy the party myself. [Address to Ryan] I must thank you, Ryan and friends for showing me the correct way to float a keg.
[Address to Erin] Erin, I know that he will always be there for you. I know you have caught the best fish in the sea and I hope that you never let go or burn him too much, so I ask you to take care of him in return and I know both of you will prosper for the rest of your lives.
I wish the both of you all the happiness in the world, and may you bring each other patience, understanding, strength , and love each other always.
I would like to end with a favorite quote on marriage was said by J.P. McEvoy. The Japanese have a word for it. It's Judo – The art of conquering by yielding. The western equivelant of judo is "Yes dear."
