DAN:
Thanks Mike, well done! I just hope you made the most of your speech, coz now that you are official married to Becky, that will be the last time you will be allowed to speak for 5 minutes without being interrupted……..…
I'm actually quite surprised you're turned up this afternoon considering Chelsea are playing today. Although you obviously know nothing about football coz you'd be supporting a better team!!
Good afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen, for those of you that don't know me I'm Michael's older brother Dan & this is his best friend & my sidekick Andrew. We are of course a double act & have both been given the privilege of being his best men.
ANDREW:
Now it is unusual to have 2 best men & you could say we are like Laurel & Hardy but we like to think of ourselves as Justin Timberlake & Cameron Diaz – I'm the talented one & he's just pretty………
Michael told us that he chose to have 2 best men coz he wanted us both by his side on his special day but we reckon it is to make him look good in the photos. He also added that if we did a good job today then we could be his best men at his next wedding…………
DAN:
I hope you're all enjoying yourselves so far? I just want to say Becky looks absolutely stunning & he bridesmaids look fantastic too. I'd also like to thank the ushers for……… well ushering, good job lads.
I'm sure you'll all agree it's been a very emotional day for us all, look…..even the cake is in tiers…………Trust me they don't get any better than that I'm afraid – so you may as well laugh now!
ANDREW:
Clearly the mention of a free meal & the fact Michael isn't cooking must be why there are so many of you here today? So thanks for coming.
The only problem we had before you all got here was the seating plan, because they couldn't decide who to put where? So Michael decided to link it to the gift list. Those who brought the biggest items nearest to the front & work back from there…………So Nick & Linda, Michael & Rebecca said thanks for the tea towel!!
Now it is not very often we get to speak about a man with the highest integrity and honour & a man of such achievement and destined for good things………but not today coz this speech is about Michael……………
So what I can I tell you about him well firstly he's –
Handsome
Intelligent
Witty
Charismatic
Sorry wrong wedding………
DAN:
So what can I tell you about Michael? Well he was born on March 10th 1982. We did try to link this to some big world event, but it seems nothing else happened that day but the staff at Bedford hospital where Michael was born did refer to this day as ‘Monkey Boy Wednesday’………..…
But all jokes aside, I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not but we did find out that the day you were born all 9 planets aligned on the same side of the sun & later that same year E.T was released in the cinema………….I can see the resemblance mate!
As brother's we had our ups & downs & even the odd fight here & there but the bruises healed & recovered quite well in the end. I couldn't ask for another brother to have grown up with.
He always knew what he wanted & as brothers do we used to share things but when I got my first girlfriend that had to stop.
As we both grew older & wiser it was time for Michael to find himself a girlfriend which was quite a relief as I started to think he may be sitting on the other side of the fence.
Now I'm just going to take a little time to talk about Michael's past loves. When he was 18 he first met a nice little blonde called Stella & was totally smitten but they soon parted company due to their differences. Michael then met Sherry through his experiment stage but that was always going to be a rocky relationship. He then moved onto to Tia Maria & Martini but never lasted either. Finally he met his ideal match with Becks which I sure you all agree is a match made in heaven……..…
I just want to briefly talk about Mike's Stag Do, although I cannot go into too much detail due to the law of the stag! For this occasion we went to Bournemouth. Now Michael had never been on a stag do & wasn't quite sure what to expect, although he had heard of all the usual antics that can occur. When we eventually arrived in Bournemouth, some of us just wanted to find the nearest pub to calm our nerves after the near death experience on the M1 with a Polish lorry, BUT Michael had a different perspective on the weekend & all HE wanted to do was find a park to play football & cricket!
ANDREW:
So on that note we would just like to present Michael with a small gift that will hopefully come in very handy on any future stag do's YOU may attend?
Pull out Cricket set & football…………
.I'm going to finish on that note by telling you that Michael also had to wear a wedding dress that weekend. He put the dress on without any hesitation & he looked like he knew what he was doing which was quite worrying BUT he wore it for most of the day & we would just like to thank Michael for being such a good sport! clap……….…
Now ladies & Gentlemen, just so you get an idea of what he looked like. If you would like to reach under your seat you will find a little souvenir to take away with you. Each chair has a photo of the groom in a wedding dress on the stag do
DAN:
Now I have a couple of cards here I just want to read out,
To Rebecca,
I'm sorry that I couldn't marry you myself and that I to get one of my mates to do it. Best wishes on your special day.
From The Archbishop.
To Michael,
We are sorry we couldn't make your special day but felt it too emotional losing a special guy such as yourself, hopefully will see you again soon.
From all the girls at The Spearmint Rhino, Bournemouth.
ANDREW:
Ladies & Gentlemen before we wrap it up there are obviously some very important people here today without whom very little of this would have been possible – and the great thing is as the evening progresses, most of us will get to spend more time talking to them. So please join me in a very special toast… Raise Glass….To the bar staff!!
DAN:
In all seriousness though Michael, you're a fantastic brother and a great friend to me & Andrew. We remember so many good times & I'm sure there's more to come? Some things are meant to be & you two are a perfect example! It's been a real honour to be your Best men today, and with all our hearts I hope you two have a long and happy marriage!
So ladies & gentlemen please be upstanding & raise your glasses to the newlywed Bride & Groom……Michael & Rebecca!!
