Speech by David Anvari

Speech Type: Best man
Speech Creator: David Anvari
Speech Date: Jul2005
I must say that when Farhad asked me to be one his best men it was a great honour and since I've been married for almost a year now, giving this speech is a great opportunity to hear the sound of my own voice.
What can you say about a man who came from humble beginnings and is now quickly rising to the very top of his profession based solely on intelligence, grit and the willpower to push on where others might fail? A man who is beginning to distinguish himself amongst his peers and where none can say a bad word against him? Well, that's enough about the best man. I'm here to talk about Farhad.
For those of you that don't know me, my name is David or Varqa and Farhad is one of my best friends. Now, according to tradition this is where I'm supposed to tell all of those wild stories about Farhad in his bachelor days. Well, I'm not going to throw Farhad under the bus because most of those stories I was a part of and they wouldn't just implicate him alone.

I will tell you that we were pretty inseparable throughout the nineties, being the best of mates, and spent our fare share of time going out to Pleasure Island and the like every weekend..and some weekdays.

Well that's enough about Farhad.

Myself, I have been lucky enough to be married for a year now and would like to pass on some advice to Farhad to keep the marriage running smoothly:

Remember Farhad, marriage is more than just an 8-letter word, it's a sentence.… you get less for murder these days.

Farhad – Never be sexist – chicks really hate it

Farhad, the best way to remember your wedding anniversary is to forget it once!
Lucky for Afsaneh, Farhad's a romantic so there's no chance of that happening.

And finally Farhad, Always remember these three magic words,

YOU'RE RIGHT AFSANEH!!

You will be glad to hear that as Best Man I only have a few more things to say,
Firstly the staff at Shangralah have asked me to request that, for Health and Safety reasons, none of you get up on the tables and chairs during my standing ovation.

I would like to say to Farhad it has been an honour and a privilege to be your Best Man today, and to say how lucky you are to have married Afsaneh, you have found someone loving, caring, intelligent and… a match for you any day of the week… And Afsaneh you have found… well… a person who loves cooking, cleaning and keeping things tidy…all the things that I get in trouble for not attending to at home and I'm sure after this speech.

Farhad, you and Afsaneh deserve one another and I know you'll make a great life together.

You're among people today who care about you very much and wish you all the happiness in the world.

I don't know what your future holds exactly, and I know that twenty years from now, many things will have happened that we can't predict today.

But whatever happens, and wherever you go, I know you'll have each other's love, and you'll also have ours.

We'll always be ready to help and ready to share your joys with you when they come.

So with that in mind, and on behalf of everyone here, I want to make you this wish: ”May your love be modern enough to survive the times and old-fashioned enough to last forever”.
