Before I start, there is just one thing, Michael, that you've forgotten to mention in your in your speech. You forgot to thank Lynne, as your new wife, for letting you speak for 5 minutes without interrupting!
Right then… now, I did try to memorise this but failed miserably, and my request for an auto-cue was turned down, as apparently, the wedding budget doesn't stretch that far, and to be fair, after a couple of beers, neither does my eyesight! So please forgive me if I resort to my notes.
Good afternoon everyone, don't worry I wont be speaking for long and the bar is still open don't be embarrassed about getting up for a drink and while your there get me one to help stop me shaking,
For those of you who don't know me yet, my name is Frank and Michael has done me the honour of asking me to be his best man, I first met Michael when we worked together at Draka from about 1994 until a couple of years ago, well at least when we both turned up that is, neither of us had a particularly good attendance record at that place, but we have both come a long way since then in our new careers and still remained friends.
Normally, at this point of the proceedings, I would have to tell you all a story about Michael designed to humiliate him. Unfortunately, It seems that all the stories I could tell you have a similar theme and I've been racking my brains for one that doesn't start with “we were in the pub”, or “we'd been drinking all day”, and every other story I know about Michael is X-rated, so therefore unsuitable for a family wedding.
Well so far I have completed 3 of my duties. To summarise, it's been my job to make sure that Mick is something he normally isn't – basically smart, punctual and sober!
I'd also like to thank to the bridesmaids and page boy, who all look fantastic and have performed There duties so well and done a wonderful job getting Lynne ready for her big day.
We can all see for ourselves how gorgeous Lynne looks today, which proves the one thing I've always known about Michael, … that he is definitely a man of vision… often blurred, sometimes double, but nonetheless a man of vision and lucky enough to have found a beauty.
I am sure during the course of the day Michael you will get all sorts of advise on being married believe me its best to just ignore it all,
I've was once told that you never truly find out what happiness is until you get married… and then it's too late!
On a serious note now, I would like to thank Michael & Lynne on behalf the bridesmaids, ushers, and the pageboy, for his kind words and gifts. I would also like to thank everybody Who has helped to make this day possible with a special thanks to Lynne and Michaels mothers for all the work they have done behind the scenes and to all you for coming today, especially those who have travelled long distances to be with us.
So ladies and gentlemen, I invite you to all stand and raise your glasses
in a toast
May your love be modern enough to survive the times; yet old fashioned
enough to last forever! To Michael & Lynne, the new Mr and Mrs Jamieson.
