Speech by Ian Beckett

Speech Type: Best man
Speech Creator: Ian Beckett
Speech Date: Mar 2002
A Wise man once told me, a best mans speech should only last as long as it takes the groom to make love……………thank you and goodnight (begin to walk of stage)

No seriously, when J first asked me to do a speech today. I thought yeah that will be ok, there will only be about 20 people after the wedding to speak to. Then instead of doing it this afternoon I somehow volunteered myself to do it now in front of 60 people.

So, Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to thank the groom for his kind words. You know I had a feeling it was going to be difficult to follow a speech by J, and I was quite right…..I couldn't follow a bloody word.

As you all know a best man speech usually involves a collection of hilarious stories about the grooms past. I've plenty of stories about our holiday in Magaluf, numerous nights out but the unfortunate thing is that not one of these would be fit for me to mention here and of course, the stag night, but thankfully for all of us that night is covered by the law of the stag. As in accordance with the law any photographic evidence must be destroyed……ah well I don't think they have been developed yet, but I'm sure that when they do they won't appear on to many lamp posts around B.

I have known J for over 5 years, I often wonder what it would be like if I DIDN'T have a friend like J…sometimes the smile lasts for days. We met at sixth form at B School while we both were young and naive teenagers. Since then he's met K, they've fallen in love, got engaged, moved into their own home and the reason we are all here today they are now husband and wife and of course 6 months ago they had a new arrival and as I am sure you'll all agree have a beautiful baby daughter, E.

Continuing the serious note Ladies and Gentlemen a few wise words for J and K. You don't marry someone you can live with, you marry the person you can not live without. This is obviously true for J and K so please all join me in a toast. to special people who are the reason we are all here to day….The new Mr & Mrs H, J and K.
