Speech by Jon Mobey

The second time I have used Hicthed, thanks you have saved my life again !!!!!

Speech Type: Best man
Speech Creator: Jon Mobey
Speech Date: Aug2005
Ladies, Gentlemen, girls n boys Jason and Alison

I'm sure you will all agree it's been a fantastic day so far, but unfortunately for every silver lining there's a cloud, and I'm yours.

For those of you that haven't bought me a drink yet, I'm Jon and I have been sentenced to be my little brother's best man today.

It's often said that, being asked to be best man is one of the greatest honours you can be given, on the other hand it's also one of the most terrible things you can do to a friend, so cheers mate.

First of all, let me begin on behalf of the Rachel, I would like to thank Jason for his kind words, and I have to say she looks absolutely wonderful and has done an excellent job today.

I would also like to thank Graham and Ruth for their kind words…

I know that some of you have travelled a long way to be here
…and it's amazing what some people will do for a free meal and a free all day bar !!!

Now…as we all know today is a very very special day……which we have all been looking forward to for some time now……

Well its not often that Man City get to the final of a European Competition and don't worry we don't have to miss the football because of the wedding there is a taxi leaving for ground as soon as I'm finished

When Jason asked me to be his best man today, part of me was honoured, part of me was terrified, but mostly I was laughing because he was finally admitting what we've known all along, that I am….in fact…….better than him.

I really have treated being the best man as an honour, but unfortunately it meant that I had to do this speech. I wasn't sure where to start, but someone suggested I have a quick look at the tinternet.…

I must admit, I did have a bit of a laugh when I looked up the meanings of Jason and Alisons's names.

Apparently Alison is a masculine name and means ‘famous fighter’ which worried me a bit until I looked up the meaning of Jason's name which is ‘to heal’ so it would seem that they are a perfect match, she hits and has to heal !!!!

Jason, It is tradition that I pass on some piece of advice at this point to help you on your journey through marriage

So always try to remember the three very little important words

You're right dear!

And Alison,

Men are like fine wine – they start out like grapes and it's your job to stamp on them, until they mature into something you would like to have dinner with.

Jason you are a very lucky man! You have married Alison today and she is beautiful, intelligent, kind, caring and best of all a blue. She really deserves a good husband. And in you she had definitely found one……well done

But its funny you know how history tends to repeats itself.… some 29ish years ago Alison's parents were putting her to bed with a dummy, and its happening all over again tonight!

Finally, On behalf of the Bride and Groom I would like to thank you all again for sharing their special day.

So, enough rambling, it's time to wrap this up with a traditional toast for a couple of people who we have all taken into our hearts

Who mean so much to us and without whom this day would not have been the success that it has been,

so……….Ladies and gentlemen, please raise your glasses and join me in a toast to………(PAUSE)…..”THE BAR STAFF”.

To..… Jason and Alison
