Ladies and Gentlemen Friends, Relatives and any members of Churchdown Community Centre, who may have wandered in. We welcome you to our wedding. I hope you're all enjoying yourselves on our special day. It's great to see you all and I can honestly say it wouldn't have been the same without you. I would also like to thank you for your kind gifts and cards. We have both been touched by your generosity and after going to 6 weddings last year our cupboards were getting a little bare!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian for his kind words and also to thank Brian and Maria for their hospitality over the last 3 years. in fact Brian even let me beat him at Monopoly at Christmas Without their incredible planning for the wedding I'm sure the day wouldn't have run so smoothly.
I am proud to say that I am now your son in law, and no better OUTLAWS could any man ask for. I hope that I can live up to your expectations in every way I know this may be a cliché but I sincerely hope that you feel you haven't just lost a daughter but have gained a SON and another mouth to feed at Christmas and Easter!.
I would like to mention two special people in my life who if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be here today. And that is my mum and dad.
Dad, you've always been there for me and without your advice and support I wouldn't be the person I am today. Thanks for giving me the sense to know a good thing when I see it!
Although my mum can't be here today I know she is close to us both on our special day and I'm sure she will be proud of me for marrying such a stunner. Mum and Clare didn't have the opportunity to meet however they knew all about each other. During one of the last times we were all together, Mum and Dad came down to see me in North Marston, We were discussing my love life or lack of over a drink in the local pub and she said that she could tell I was in love with Clare. These words helped to give me the confidence to persuade Clare that I was the man for her.
So..If you would all be upstanding I would like to propose a toast TO ABSENT FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
It is at this point that WE would like to give gifts to our Parents, for all your help both financial, emotional and organisational on getting us both here today.
We would like to thank Veronica and Mike for all their help for providing the wonderful music at the church and also to Clare and Lizzie for the fantastic job they did this morning decorating the hall.
We would also like to say thanks to Clare's Aunties, Ces, Prue and Ros for taking on the mammoth task of providing food for us this evening. I'm sure we'll all appreciate that later!
I want to say a thank you to Jason, Richard, Robb and Steve for agreeing to be our Ushers and your stirling work today. The way that you frisked the guests for concealed weapons before the wedding was very professional. Special thanks to Robb for travelling from Atlanta for the stag and also today for the wedding. It's amazing the lengths some people will go to for a party!. If you'd all like to come up we have a gift for you.
And now, on to my Beautiful Wife, Words cannot describe how I felt today when I saw you walking down the aisle. I am sure you will all agree that Clare looks particularly stunning today and I am very lucky that she has agreed to be my wife!.
Clare and I first met 4 years ago and we're not ashamed to say our eyes met over the interweb.
DON'T WORRY I'LL GIVE YOU THE WEB ADDRESS LATER!!
Clare had some strict criteria that she wanted her future partner to meet when we first met and they were in no particular order WEALTHY, TALL, DARK, HANDSOME and WEALTHY, One out of Four is not too bad.
What Clare doesn't know is, I had some strict criteria too! And I'll show her the list after the wedding.
As time went by, Clare decided to relax her specifications and we started a long distance relationship. Clare lived over in South Wales, very close to where I was born and I was living in AYLESBURY near where CLARE was born. I was shocked to find they even charge you for driving into WALES and I had to fund a car and petrol out of my own pocket How times have changed!.
As you can imagine this could only go on for a limited time. To cut a long story short, I applied for a job in the EAST MIDLANDS and Clare very bravely decided she would make the move to be with me.
Through all our job and house moves Clare has always been by my side. For always supporting me and making me the HAPPIEST MAN ALIVE by agreeing to marry me, I would like to thank her.
Now apart from my Wife, the most beautiful girls here, the bridesmaids and not forgetting Kelly the Flower Girl. Thanks for keeping Clare out of trouble on her Hen night and bringing her back home in one piece. I managed to find out a few things about what went on and I've been told you all went on a comedy night? I believe Jood helped to stop the advances of a rather large amorous comedian with a small PAUSE guitar.
In the run up to the wedding they have helped de-stress Clare, I must admit I haven't been much help deciding colour schemes or between Silver Bells, Pink Hearts and Iridescent Pink Butterflies!!
We have a gift for both of you as a momento of the occasion.
So if you would all be upstanding, raise your glasses and join me in raising a toast to the bridesmaids… "The bridesmaids!"
OK I could go on all night, trotting out the usual old jokes and fictitious anecdotes, but instead I'm going to leave that to Kris the best man.
Before I do that I would just like to get a few stories in first….… We've known each other for half our lifetimes, and Kris hasn't changed a bit!. He is a great friend to have because of his height and let's face it hair colour you can be sure you will never lose him!! And believe me I've tried!.
Over the years Kris and I, being handy men around the house have often helped each other with DIY chores.
One time we were at my first house, trying to work out why my upstairs telephone didn't ring but the downstairs one did it was the least of my worries but Kris being a man of experience decided that what we needed to do was strip the wires back and reconnect them. But Kris being the Ray Meers of the DIY world didn't need wire cutters!
So he proceeded to bite the wires with his teeth but what he didn't realise is that the wires carry a small electrical charge!.
Thats the first and only time I've seen KRIS speechless and now we know what to do if it he goes on a bit with his speech.
In recent times Kris has become a family man, and if I can emulate him as a father and husband then I won't go far wrong.
We have a gift for you KRIS and if you keep your speech nice, we'll let you have it.
