Good afternoon ladies & gentlemen

Before I begin the obligatory best man's speech, I have an announcement to make :-

Janet & Ste have asked that if you injure yourselves in any way when climbing on the chairs and tables at the end of my speech to give me a standing ovation, they can in NO way be held responsible for your actions!!

For those who are not sure who I am, my name is Paul and I have been given the honour of being Ste's best man for today.

Let's start by congratulating Janet & the bridesmaids on how stunning they look and Ste, well my role for today reads ‘Best man’ not ‘genie’.

What can you say about a man who came from humble beginnings and is now quickly rising to the very top of his profession based solely on intelligence, grit and the willpower to push on where others might fail? A man who is beginning to distinguish himself amongst his peers and where none can say a bad word against him? Well, that's enough about me – I'm here to talk about Ste.

I was honored when the Ste asked me to be his best man. I started to research the best man's speech using the Internet.  After 2 or 3 hours surfing I decided to log out of Facebook and start looking for best man speeches.

Then with about 2 weeks to go, the panic started to take over and in the build up to today I have been getting quite nervous almost as nervous as an athlete going to this years Commonwealth Games, so, here's hoping all goes well.

A few weeks ago Ste confided to me that he was worried about his doctor after he went to see him about his groin strain and whether it would affect him on this big day.

When he went into the surgery to chat about his problem, the doctor asked Ste to undress, Ste then asked where should he put his clothes, the doctor replied ‘put them over there – next to mine’

People have said to me ‘you've known Ste for a long time, can you sum him up in 5 words, trustworthy, loyal, unselfish, funny and ……….sorry Ste, I can't read this last word you've written

Janet told me that they she couldn't wait for today to show how much she is in love with Ste by committing herself to him in front of her close friends & family.

Ste on the other hand is looking forward to life after the nuptials when he can clear the Sky plus planner of various wedding themed programmes like Brides on the bus, Bridezillas, Bulging brides and Don't tell the bride.

I would like to say best of luck to the two of you, I really am absolutely delighted for both of you. I hope you have a long and happy future together.

And thank you Ste, it really has been a great honour to be your best man, you are more like a brother to me than a best friend.

It now gives me immense pleasure, not to mention relief to invite you all to stand and raise your glasses to the new Mr & Mrs Rice.
