Speech by Russell Lees

Got some great little pointers for structuring my speech here at "hitched.co.uk" and so thought I share my own final edit. It went down well and the tips section also helped. I probably read out a little too quickly but I had a very good audience who like you said were all on side. Thanks for you pointers.. Russell

Good afternoon ladies and gents,  for those who don't know me, my names Russell and Mark thought it was a good idea that I speak in front of you lot today. I'm not a big fan of public speaking but I've been told by Mark that it's like a walk down a nudist beach, its only hard for the first 2 minutes.

I'm lucky enough that big Conboy was too much of a bottle merchant to pick one best man and so some of my responsibilities have been shared with Mr Bedford who will keep you entertained for the second half of this speech.

Over the last few weeks we were given guidance by Fiona that there would be a mixture of ages in today's attendance and therefore our speech should suit the entire audience. So this speech has been adapted and any sexual innuendo has been removed, it was agreed anything of that nature including anything of huge length, either myself or Lee would whip it out immediately.

Moving forward into married life Mark you are very lucky, you'll leave here today having gained a partner who is warm, caring and radiates kindness wherever she walks.

On the other hand Fiona you will leave today with a man who sub-consciously does a great impression of Jack Dee ( no reference to his joke telling skills… was thinking more of his fixed facial expression )… and of course your lovely dress and flowers.

On a personal note I've known Jack… I mean Mark since primary 5 when we were 9 years old.  For the last 26 years his mum Wilma has always welcomed me in for tea and a steady supply of cheese on toast… she's a great wee woman and a close friend to my own family … Now on the other hand I've  been in Mark and Fionas new gaff over in Bellshill a few times … and never once has the good lady of the house offered a cup of tea!

Anyway in 1989 me and the bigyin moved to secondary school up in Castlemilk where we were acquainted with Mr Bedford, Stephen, Chris, and big Robert over there.. a great bunch of lads who today I'm sure will be reminiscing of past times. For years we ran about Birgidale with our carry outs,  chasing the local talent…  and during that time where was  Mr Exciting..… he was staying back at school with Mr Lochray for extra badminton lessons!!!..  There's no doubt Mark looked up to auld Lochray… for he was a dour faced b*****d too.

Before I pass you over to Mr Bedford can I ask you to stand and charge your glasses for the third time and join me in wishing Mr and Mrs Conboy a long and prosperous life together.
