Speech by Scott Ellis

Speech Type: Best man
Speech Creator: Scott Ellis
Speech Date: oct 2003
Ladies and Gentlemen: For those of you who are wondering who I am, my name is Scott. The friend who drew the short straw… Sorry I mean the friend who has the honour of being Marks best man.

Some of you here today will have been a best man before and are therefore aware how it feels to be standing in my shoes. But for those who haven't let me give you some idea. It is like being asked to make love to the Queen Mother on her birthday . . . it's a great honour but it's not a day you really look forward to.

Having said that I am already making a better job of being best man than I did of being a groom . . . at least I remembered to put THIS speech in my sporran before I left the house.

On behalf of the bridesmaids I would like to thank Mark for his kind words and I would also like to second them, they all look beautiful and have carried out their duties with grace. Also I think I speak on behalf of everyone when I express thanks to Andrea, Mark and their families for the effort and stress they put into organising this wonderful day.

We can all see for ourselves how stunning Andrea looks today, which proves the one thing I have always known about Mark . . . he is a man a vision . . . often blurred, sometimes double but none the less a man of vision.

I had written a whole list of warnings against marriage and it's restrictions and downfalls, especially marriage to Mark. However Mark has been one of my closest friends for many years and seeing his relationship with Andrea develop and blossom I realise that I find it impossible to do anything other than to wish them all the luck and happiness I can. I've also been banned from mentioning anything about Marks past – the fast women, the fast cars and the farmyard animals, but that was just the stag night!!!.

It is wonderful to see so many people here today, especially those who have ventured from south of the boarder as there are a few who were unable to attend. I would like to take this opportunity to pass on their good wishes by reading their cards.

It now leaves me, in closing, to ask you to charge your glasses and stand to toast the new Mr and Mrs Paterson . . .. Mark and Andrea.

THE END. WOOHOO !
