Speech Type: Best man
Speech Creator: Scott McNeill
Speech Date: Aug 2001
Good afternoon everyone, for those of you who don't know me yet I'm the best man and Laurence's nephew, Scott
I'd like to start by thanking Laurence on behalf of sue I'm sure everyone agrees she and Maria look wonderful and sue has performed her duties splendidly, it can't have been easy dragging Maria to the church it certainly wasn't easy dragging Laurence! By the way Laurence you look good too but I don't know about copying my outfit
I'd also like to congratulate Maria not only on getting married but also for managing to arrange the date to coincide with the first day of the football season! Anyone know the scores?
It was one of my proudest moments being asked to be Laurence's best man, that was until I woke up this morning and realised I had to do this speech today…I can tell you it's not the first time today I've stood up from a warm seat with a piece of paper in my hand
Seriously though I was really chuffed when I was asked to be best man because I've always seen Laurence as more like a the big brother I never had and always looked up to him, though when I was young I was more used to looking up to him because he was trying to inflict me with some kind of pain
I remember Laurence when he came home one night with two huge karate trophies
He also influenced me in other ways with things like music tastes but the ginger bono mullet in the eighties never influenced me
Then I think the next few years were taken up with a strange fixation with driving lessons and driving tests .… How many driving tests were there Laurence?
Is it true you kept failing because you kept opening the door the let the clutch out?
Well is it true that guy you hit last week is the guy that kept failing you?
But here we are now I think he's shown himself to have been an excellent role model, he's successful in work and now also as a husband and father.…
It's only recently I've been thinking about one piece of advice he gave me but I never listened to him and over the past year it would have made my life a lot easier…….if only I'd listened when he told me to support Celtic.
Now I'd like everyone to raise there glasses to two very special people…the bar staff!
