Wedding Speech by Bryan Harker – Father of the Bride
For those who don't know me, my name is Bryan Harker, father of Kathryn.
As Henry 8th said to each of his wives ‘I won't keep you very long’.
As father of the bride it's my privilege to make the first speech, and I would like to start by saying what a real pleasure to welcome
Chris and Janet, their family, our family, and all our friends that join us here in celebrating Kate and Matt's special day.
Congratulations to Matt for your choice of bride. When Matt asked me for Kate's hand in marriage I realised what a thoroughly nice man he is and the proposal in Mezzo's on your knees just went to prove it.
One piece of advice Matt, when you make a mistake, admit it, and when your right, keep quiet.
Kate said she wanted low key, fish & chips in the garden wedding and but Kate's dress wouldn't look out of place in Westminster Abbey!
Seriously though the planning and attention to detail that Kate & Matt, well Kate anyway, has put into this wonderful day in 5 months is amazing.
I know I am echoing the thoughts of Chris and Janet when I say we are all extremely proud of you and Kate how beautiful you look today and you scrubbed up well Matt.
Matt you shouldn't need reminding re anniversary dates since July 30th is the same date England won the world cup in 1966.
I thought I was going to be asked to organise the honeymoon but then after our trip to the chocolate factory in Birmingham perhaps not. For those who don't know I organised a train trip for Kate, Amber and myself to the Cadbury's chocolate factory in Birmingham, only to find it closed, the only Tuesday in the whole year and it was shut.
Before Kate met Matt she put an advert in the local paper saying ‘Husband wanted’ she received 197 replies saying “you can have mine!”
Seriously Kate didn't need to advertise it was in The Cellar Bar on 13th August 2006 at a Drum & Bass do that Kate met Matt, but having chatted Pete up all evening she finally went home with Matt and the rest as they say is history.
Matt, remember that a man who gives in when he is wrong is a wise man, but a man who gives in when he is right, is married.
Matt, I know you've made the right choice as I see Kate looking so happy.
It's a real pleasure Matt to officially welcome you into our family.
Special thanks to:
The Weather
Kate's bridesmaids and indeed all the ladies for looking so beautiful
