Well….that's one down…… two to go………
As Father of the bride, it is my privilege to make the first speech, and I would like to start by saying what a pleasure it is to welcome, on this very happy occasion, Janette and Brian, Robs” parents, together with family and friends.
THE WEDDING
When I first thought about organising all of this I was quite worried about getting everything right………..actually I have found it all very easy…………You sit back and everything happens. It was just like my own wedding in 1972! I really don't know what all the fuss is about. SIMPLE.
The only thing I must say is that I was most upset that my suggestion of the local scout hut as a venue was dismissed without any consideration, but I must admit the final selection is perfectly acceptable.
Dawn,
Dawn has made us very proud. All parents want their children to have a good education and give themselves a good start in life. Dawn went to University in Sheffield that's where she first met Rob and passed out…..not literally, she passed out with an honours degree.
Today, I look at my daughter and I see an independent, attractive, elegant, stunning young woman. She obviously takes after her mother.
Of course she inherits other traits from me…..…
Her cooking……….…
Her musical talent………..…
Her allergy to housework…
Her appreciation for the finer things in life DOWN GLASS OF CHAMPAGNE
While preparing this speech I was getting a little nostalgic and decided to get out a few old photograph albums. People who know me are aware that I can get very sentimental, as I turned the pages one picture that stood out from the others was the striking photograph of my precious daughter lying on a rug,
Dribbling and pointing at the lens.
What a treasure she looked as she tried to stand …
We'll NEVER FORGET HER 18th BIRTHDAY.
Sue and I are very proud today, to see Dawn, looking so happy, married to Rob, the dashing groom.
During the time we've known Rob, we've come to realise how special he is to Dawn and anyone can see that they're made for each other!
Rob has taken the time to patiently explain the mysteries of the computer to me, and stopped me from having to perform ”impact engineering” with a hammer many times!
We're delighted that Dawn has chosen someone we like so much to be her partner. I would like to welcome my new son-in-law Rob into our family, we certainly approve of her choice.
Apparently it's traditional for the bride's father to offer some thoughts and worldly advice about marriage, so here goes.…
Marriage is like a road, yes that's right a road.
It can be nice and smooth
Sometimes it can be slippery
There can be obstacles in the way
You can go round in circles
Conditions are sometimes bumpy and you can't see through the mist
But think, before you cross the line be aware of all the signs
And most important of all
GIVE WAY
The 5 point plan to making marriage work is:
Love and respect each other
Be honest with each another
Keep talking and listening to one another
Give each other some space and trust one another
I know
BECAUSE I READ IT IN A BOOK.
It now gives me great pleasure to propose a toast to the happy couple.
I wish you fun and excitement for today.…
hopes and dreams for tomorrow.…
and love and happiness forever.
Ladies and Gentlemen please stand, raise your glasses and drink a toast with me to the health and happiness of our
Bride & Groom
The Bride and Groom.
