This was not an easy speech to prepare as i had only met my daughter`s future husband on three occasions,and his parents only once,such was their whirlwind romance and the fact we live a long way from each other.In fact, i didn`t really prepare it at all as such,i just had a few things in my mind as we ate the reception meal and just said what i felt as i went along! That is why it is a short but to the point speech.Possibly too short for some but i hope i got it right and said what needed to be said.

Thankyou everyone.
Where do i begin?
It has been a truly great day, and on behalf of my wife Jen,my family and friends,i would like to thank you all very much for being here today.It`s good to see how many new friends Carrie has made in the relatively short time she has been living here.
I would like to say a very special thankyou to Carrie`s little flower girl Olivia and her bridesmaids who did such a wonderful job this morning.They looked beautiful.
As for the bride,what can i say?
I think you`ll all agree she looks absolutely radiant,and i can`t believe that she is now a married woman when it only seems like yesterday that Jen and I were pushing her around in a pram!
Don`t ask me where all those years have gone Carrie because i don`t know,they seem to have flown by so quickly.
When i look back to when Carrie was starting her school years,she was such a shy and almost timid child,and we had no idea that by the time she reached the end of her teens,not only would she have left the family home,but left her home town,pulled up her roots,located to a different part of the country and started a career with the Police force!
That is something we never saw coming,and i know that Carrie has worked so hard to get where she is today and we are all very proud of her.
She is happy to have put down her roots here in Thatcham and is settled here now.It`s a nice town with nice people,and i would like to take a moment to thank two of those people in particular.
Derek and Helen [Groom`s parents],you have taken Carrie into your home,your family and your lives and have made her feel so welcome.In the time she has been living with you,you have treated her as if she was your own daughter and Jen and I can`t thank you enough for what you have done.Carrie has a great deal of affection for you both and looks at you now as her second parents.You are good people and thankyou.
Finally, i would like to welcome my new son Phil into our family.I never had a son of my own and i am happy to say that Carrie has made a fine choice!
You are a good man Phil,with a level head on your shoulders,a great career ahead of you,and i am happy that you will look after Carrie,take good care of her and make her a fine husband,as i know Carrie will make you a loving wife.
On behalf of my family and friends i would like to wish you both all the best for the future.have a very long and happy married life together.You have made us all very happy and very proud today.Congratulations to you both.
And on that note Ladies and Gentlemen.can i ask you all to raise a glass and drink a toast.
