Speech by Leo Mason

I pretty much memorised the speech (walking and talking to myself a few days before and on the morning of the wedding day), but I had a printed copy in large font on the table in front of me just in case. It worked well and was well received so please feel free to borrow a few lines - I know I did :)

Intro

Welcome everyone. For those of you that don't know me, I am Leo, the Brides’ Father and so it is upto me to make the opening Speech. But don't worry, I am just the warm up act for the other two, who I know, are anxious to get on 🙂

Two rules boys, ABC- Always Be Confident and more importantly XYZ – Examine Your Zip 🙂

Welcome

So, on behalf of my wife Debbie and I, we would like to welcome you all and thank you for coming to this very special occasion to celebrate with us, the marriage of our daughter Kim, to her new man, Wayne.

Today is, of course, a celebration, not just of the love that has united Kim and Wayne in marriage, but also of the families that have created, moulded and influenced the lives of these two special people.

So Debbie and I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Bev, Roy and their family, and to relatives and friends of both families. Thank you all for joining us in celebrating this very special day. It is good to see so many friends and family here.

Kim

Debbie and I are very proud of Kim and pleased to see her looking so beautiful and happy today. Over the years we've had the privilege of watching Kim blossom from a gorgeous baby girl into the beautiful woman we see before us today.

Kim is a wonderful daughter; she has provided us with so much joy and happiness over the years, and yes, a few tears, but we have always been proud of her, and in everything she does.

Wayne

During the time we have known Wayne we have come to realise how special he is to Kim and what a great son-in-law he will be.

When Wayne asked me what I thought about him marrying Kim, my answer was simple – make her happy.

I believe he will and so, we would like to take this opportunity to formally welcome Wayne, to our family.

 Stories

Now Kim, this is the time that every bride fears…what is he going to talk about…is he going to tell about the time when…?! What if he says…!!

Well you can relax, I'm not going to talk about spong cake (private joke, Kim can explain later) 🙂

I'm not going to talk about you listening to music all through your brother Chris's football match … and flattening the car battery 🙂

No, I'm going to wait until we are on the dance floor before I start embarrassing you with some serious Dad dancing 🙂

My only story is about today, when you and I shared our little glance at one another, as we were ready to start our walk down the aisle. That will be a moment I will cherish for ever.

 Advice

It is customary on these occasions to offer the happy couple some worldly advice on marriage, and this is the one time when you have to listen :

Actually as you are both dog mad, I'm going to tell you what I think they would say;

Love unconditionally…and be quick to forgive

Start each day positively with a wag of your tail , if you've got one, or a smile 🙂

Make many friends…along with your family, they will always help

Take time to romp and play every day…remember, Debbie and I want more grandchildren 🙂

Never underestimate the value of a good nap…but don't go to sleep on an argument

Most importantly – trust each other… especially off the leash 🙂

My greatest wish for the two of you is that through the years, your love for each other will so deepen and grow, that years from now you will look back on this day, your wedding day, as the day you loved each other the least.

 Toast

My final duty and very great privilege is to propose a toast to our daughter and new son-in law.  So would you please stand and join me in a toast to the bride and groom.

So, I wish you

Fun and excitement for today

Hopes and dreams for tomorrow

and Love and happiness forever

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, Kim and Wayne THE BRIDE AND GROOM
