Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Nigel, the Bride's father, I'd like to thank all of you for being here today, especially those of you who knew that I'd be saying a few words – it's very touching that you still decided to come

So, On behalf of myself & Debbie, and Vic & Linda, I'd like to welcome you all to the wedding of Rebecca & Benjamin aka Bex&Ben!

I know some of you have travelled a good few miles to be here today, from Leicestershire,  Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and we've even let someone come from Coventry!!! To those people I say welcome to the Republic of Yorkshire!! Although to some of them, I should say welcome back to the Republic of Yorkshire!!

At this point, I'm supposed to tell you all about Becky while she was growing up, and the funny and embarrassing things that happened, but she'll only get her own back, plus about 150%, so I'd better be careful. So, just one thing, when she was born, I kept singing ‘ isn't she lovely?’ And couldn't stop.  Ive also decided on one other thing, which is to reserve judgement on Ben until after the Best Man's speech!

Finally, old married couples know that the secret of a successful marriage is patience, tolerance and forgiveness – failing that a bad memory seems to be quite useful. Except of course when birthdays and anniversaries are involved…

Then there is the recognition that marriage is an equal relationship – both of you will find that you are contributing 70%.

So here's to the groom, a man who keeps his head though he loses his heart.

Here's to these beautiful bridesmaids.  A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

And here's to the bride. May she share everything with her husband – including the housework.

It is written: when children find true love, parents find true joy. Here's to your joy and ours, from this day forward.

All that remains for me to say is to ask everyone to have a good time this evening.

Thank you
