Speech by Norm Budd

I really appreciated being able to view so many speeches on your site. Attached is the one I gave recently. Hopefully it will help inspire other dads out there who are in the same boat I was in.

Speech Type: Father of the bride/groom
Speech Creator: Norm Budd
Speech Date: Jul2007
Hiya everyone.…

For those who don't know me……

I'm Norm the father of the Groom……

And Melissa here……..…

Is my brand new daughter-in-law….…

And we are so happy to welcome her into our family.

Winston Churchill was asked to address a prep school…
And so he got up and said…….“Never, Never, Never give up!”..…
And then he promptly sat right back down again.
Well folks..…
I'm may not be Winston Churchill….…
But like him, I too…… intend to be brief.

Wow, today we really witnessed a very beautiful and special wedding ceremony.

It's really very fitting seeing as Melissa and Jay are such a very special couple.

As many of you may know, they were teenage sweethearts.

And although it's happened before….…

I think it's nonetheless special and rare for two halves to find each other at such a young age……And to ultimately……

Decide to spend the rest of their lives together.

I say ‘halves’ because together, Melissa and Jay really seem to complete each other perfectly…..…

Like a hand in a glove….… or a song and dance……..…

Or even……..…

A fist in the eye….…

I'm sure you get my meaning though about them being ‘halves.…

And that together..…

They make one hell of a team and a wonderful couple.

Anyway, Jay and Melliss…..…

I just wanted to say how happy we all are for you.

That we all wish you the very best……………

A long……

A happy..…

A healthy….…

And a loving life together..…

And that together……

You come to realize all your shared dreams, desires and plans.

And now, I would like to return to old Winston Churchill for some serious advice for you both:

“Never, Never, Never give up……

On loving each other….…

And on working together to make your marriage last..…

And on achieving everything that you both want and deserve.

Ladies and Gentlemen I invite you to please stand and raise your glass….…

And join me in the following toast to Melissa and Jay……

Actually…….… It's a little poem that I found:

Here's to the bride that was married today,
And here's to the groom she wed,

May all their troubles be light as bubbles
Or the feathers that make up their bed!

To keep a marriage brimming
With love in the loving cup,

When you are wrong………….… you should admit it,

And when you are right………… you should shut up!

Cheers!
