Father of the Bride Speech
Ladies and Gentlemen, Family and Friends. I would like to thank you all very much for coming and making this day one that Niki & Neil can remember and cherish for the rest of their lives.
I would especially like to thank those of you who knew that I was going to say a few words – but still decided to come anyway, Im very touched!
For those that do not know me, I have the proud distinction of being Nicola's Father. It was the 16th June 1981, a day that I will never forget, my first Child Nicola was born, I nervously held her in my arms and remember the Miraculous feeling of Joy & Wonder at the birth of my Beautiful baby Daughter, “Nicola Maria” it seems like yesterday! And today I am very Proud and honoured to be giving the Father of the bride Speech, and feel privileged that it is for such a wonderful Daughter and her very special Husband.
We are so pleased to welcome you all here today, particularly Neil's Parents Charles & Jill and Their Family, and those, who have travelled a great distance to be here, Thank-you. I would also like to mention those who can not be with us today but who will be sorely missed, Nicola's Nan and Granddad, and Grandpa, also Neils Grandparents Marjorie and Frederick, Charles and Agnes ……… I feel sure that they are all with us and enjoying every single moment!
Niki & Neil looked absolutely stunning as they stood side by side making their vows and cementing their love for one another, beginning their relationship as Husband & Wife, It truly was a beautiful ceremony.
I am most grateful to them for inviting us all here to share this very special and momentous occasion in their life, and one I am sure we will all remember forever!
My Daughter Nicola/Niki
I would like to say that Nicola is looking wonderful today. She's had a hard week leading up to the wedding, not many people know this but last Tuesday she actually had her credit card stolen, but Neil's not reporting it to the police because whoever stole it is spending considerably less than Niki
Being Niki's Dad, I have many memories of her growing up! Being sick, having a tantrum, wetting herself and crawling around on the floor….but I promised Niki that I would'nt mention her 18th birthday, so I wont!….…
Nicola was an extremely happy child, always singing and dancing, quite content to play her own private little games, giggling and clapping her hands in her own imaginary world, she very rarely required reprimand and a stern look was all that was ever needed.
She was thrilled when her baby Brother and sister arrived on the scene and did her best in helping to look after them, they have remained very close ever since and I feel sure that Andrew & Christina would like to express their most sincere gratitude to Niki for all the times she saved them from getting a smack by putting herself in the firing line! And protecting them from their wicked Father, However, I remember many occasions over the years where Niki has served and protected, and far too many to verse today, but whilst on holiday one year her brother & sister decided to go paddling in the resident boating lake, fully clothed, in their Sunday best and up to their waists in murky water, naturally, I was somewhat disturbed and decided to pursue them to the aforementioned boating lake, only to discover that Nicola had placed them both on paddle boats, taken the very last one herself and made their way out to the centre of the lake……! Making it completely impossible for me to reach them!!! ……… I wont mention how long they were out there, but as dawn broke……….NO seriously quite some time!
Nicola was a truly blessed child with love overflowing from her heart and compassion for every living thing, She really is a wonderful person.
Nicola's priority list in life is about as selfless as it gets: family and friends first, and then herself. And anyone who can call her family or friend is indeed truly fortunate. She is a gem, and I admire her as much as I love her.
She's a very talented Singer and Dancer and is also very modest, Im sure not many of you know that she has appeared at the Peacock Centre in Woking and has performed on the “Top of the Pops stage” in Elstree Studio's.
She is gifted with Children and most little ones seem magnetised to her, Over the years she has provided me with a wealth of happiness and endless memories that will forever stay in my heart, I am truly proud to be her Dad and grateful for her presence in my life.
Nicola, you are the Daughter every parent dreams of having, quiet, considerate, loving and caring, You have always been there in times of need and given your love freely and without question or obligation. We have shared so many special times together and I'm sure that there will be many more in the future and if you bring Neil just half of the happiness you have given me, he is indeed a very lucky man. Thank you Daughter for everything!
Over the past few years, I've got to know Neil quite well, and he's become like a son to me,….… Disrespectful, always answering me back, leaving things lying around and never doing as he is told!…..but seriously..…
Neil, since meeting Nicola and becoming part of our Family I would now like to formally welcome you into the fold! You are already like a son and we are very proud of all that you have accomplished in the time that we have known you. You have fitted into the family like a piece to a puzzle , that was missing for many years, but finally found-rendering it complete. You are indeed a very lucky man for having met my Daughter, but equally, she is very lucky for having met you! You compliment each other.
I am sure that we would all agree that you make the perfect couple and I feel content in the knowledge that Nicola has you to love and care for her for the rest of her life, as I know she will love and care for you.
You are two very special people overflowing with love and compassion for all who know you, God bless you both.
And so to the customary words of wisdom
Always be honest with one another, allowing time and patience for your love to grow and blossom, never be afraid to say that you are sorry and always take the time to make each other feel special, share every moment in life, for each moment creates a memory to be drawn upon later in times of need. And Neil, Im sure all the women here will agree with me when I say that “the wife is always right” ………Unless it's important…No, Ladies, lower your handbags, Im only joking! Marriages are built on teamwork, Neil will definitely wear the trousers, but Niki will choose which pair!!!
And so……
Finally, Ladies & Gentlemen, I would like to propose a toast to the Bride & Groom, so please be upstanding and raise your glasses.
I am sure that you will all join me in wishing them both all the luck and happiness in their new life together and assure them that there are always Friends and Family close by should they ever require any help or support along the way! May God bless them both and bring them all the luck, happiness and good fortune, that they so rightly deserve!
Nicola & Neil Ladies and Gentlemen.
