Speech by Philip Buckett

When practising it the speech took about 4 minutes 30 seconds, also in the speech there shows a part that says Rachel short story which was from memory, so the whole speech lasted about 8 minutes, enough for anyone I would think, I really enjoyed making the speech although somewhat nervous. Can I just say thankyou for the website it helped me tremendously, its such an important day. Some of the words have been borrowed either from the specimen speeches or from those submitted by other proud fathers. So therefore in all its glory I feel that I have to make a contribution to the website if it h

Speech Type: Father of the bride/groom
Speech Creator: Philip Buckett
Speech Date: Oct2007
As the father of the bride, it is my pleasure to be the warm up act for the two main speakers, the groom and the best man who are really looking forward to making their speeches. All three of us today are being sponsored, my sponsor is Imodium, I'm not sure whose sponsoring Rob and Paul.

On behalf of myself, my wife Julie, Robs Mum and Dad, Bob and Margaret, I would like to welcome each and every one of you to Rachel and Rob's special day. Most of you have travelled long distances to be here, in particular Robs relatives Margarete, Jurgen, Michelle, Andre and Jasmine who have travelled from Germany, and Tracey one of Rachel's friends who lives in Spain, so we thank you one and all.

I would also hope that we can remember those who have meant so much to us from our respective families who sadly cannot be with us today. toast to absent friends.

When Rachel was born, nearly 32 years ago I can remember thinking “OH DEAR” it's a girl one day I'm going to have to make a wedding speech.
I've worried about it ever since, I never ever thought it would happen, but today's the day. So as Rachel is our only child I want to enjoy my once in a lifetime opportunity to make this speech, and I hope you enjoy it as well. Mind you from what Rachel has said to me about Rob, It will be his once in lifetime opportunity too. So I'm going to give it my best shot, which is an unfortunate thing to say as both Rob, and Paul have been clay pigeon shooting this morning, I've heard the scores, and it looks like I might be the only speaker to hit the target.

A few weeks ago Rachel asked me if I would like to see her wedding outfit when she had a trial run. I said “No love, just surprise me on the day, because I know you will”, and I know that you will all agree with me that Rachel looks absolutely stunning and beautiful.

I said to Rob after the wedding ceremony, our Rachel has always dressed to kill, He said she cooks the same way, and it's not true that Rachel uses the smoke alarm as a timer.

Well after many years Daddies little girl, is now someone else's responsibility look of relief phew yippee if you want. As Rachel and Rob have lived together now for a few years, it would seem pointless to offer them words of advice as a newly married couple. However to Rachel I would say this, if there's anything you want, all you have to do is ask Rob, remember, he is a man and a hint won't work.

To Rob I would say this, Rachel is my daughter and used to live with me, you have also lived with my daughter, and my daughter is now your wife, I can only assume that like me you know when to keep quiet and do as your told.

Rachel is a wonderful daughter, she has provided us with so much joy and laughter over the years we have always been proud of her, and in everything she does, she always gives it 110% and when she's talking it's 120%.

Rachel short Storywithout notes

I would like to say a few words about Rob, firstly I would like to welcome him as a member of our family. One evening as I was preparing notes for this speech, Julie walked into the room and asked me what I was doing. I said “I'm just writing a few words about Rob”, She said “What have you written so far”

I said “Rob is a polite and courteous, hardworking man, he's got a good sense of humour. He is as devoted to Rachel as she is to him, he is an absolute credit to his mum and dad, who are rightfully very proud of their son.”

I said to Julie “Is there anything you want to add to that?”
She said “YES”

As I sat there with my pen poised to write she said “I think he's so lovely” and then walked off.

Rob in this world there are only two laws, they are the in-laws and the outlaws, and we know that the difference between the two, is that the outlaws are always wanted. So whilst we are the former, I hope we will also be the latter.

Well ladies and gentlemen, my once in a lifetime opportunity has come to an end, and all that remains for me to do is the toast, thank you.
